looking after your hands

i need to start looking after them...

i have hard dry lumps at the base of each finger (palm side)
im trying to grow my nails for a manicure for a wedding
and i have pulled the skin off my thumb and first finger (pony pulling back)
skin is so dry and i have marks and scratches everywhere
how does everyone else look after thier hands? as i dont want to end up with horrible hands

I often get horrible dry manky hands, which get quite bad and start to crack and bleed

Only thing that works is Soap & Glory Hand Food during the day and Superdrugs Overnight Hand Therapy

I'm a dog walker as well as a horse rider so my mitts are exposed almost every waking hour of the day. And I'm beginning to look at them and think they are aging faster than the rest of me!!

However, one of my customers bought me this amazing cream as a christmas pressie and it works almost overnight. It's by burt's and is shea butter hand repair creme. You slather it on before bed and put some cotton gloves on and sleep. In the morning your gloves are off and your hands are as soft as a childs. I should warn you though this is not a look to entice your other half!!!
 

LOL merlinsquest - by the way dried haylage also works as an OH deflector..

I too have sensitive skin and for some reason the burt's stuff seems ok. it does smell but it's all natural essential oils etc.. so doesn't seem to affect.

vaseline do a great hand and nail cream cant remember the full name but comes in a pink bottle, is really gentle and also makes your nails stronger rather than weaker which alot of hand creams do
 
Recommended on Womens' Hour, Radio Four. Olive Oil and sugar to moisturise and exfoliate - works a treat.

Use hadncream EVERY night before you go to sleep and wear gloves.

It's brilliant and completely non-greasy, so you can put it on and then get on with stuff straight away. It helps to keep various bottles of unguent around the place so some is always close at hand (ha ha!) when you feel like you need some. And gloves. Particularly if your mucking out tools have wooden handles as the wood draws the oils out of your skin.
 
Get a good night hand creme(dove night is good) slap it on and wear cotton gloves(boots sell them) overnight lovely soft hands...and always try and wear gloves when doing wear and tear chores

I wear rubber gloves round the yard. People think I'm mad, and they always comment on me wandering round the yard in my marigolds but I don't care-my hands are fine.
 
I use a heavy duty moisturiser on my feet (rec by the podiatrist) - the stuff for cracked and sore heels. the side effect is that my hands always in great condition because of it. the stuff I use is Flexitol. Use it at night and hands/heels are lovely in the morning. It's great for softening callus.

ditto - Gloves. At all times. When I went DIY, I didn't wear gloves and quickly developed a great set of calluses at the base of my fingers.
