We are looking for a lurcher to join us and our small lurcher. I'm actively searching the internet and all the fb lurcher pages. It has very big boots to fill as my previous girl was my dog of a lifetime. We were joined at the hip for 13 years, she never had to be on a lead and would come out riding with me and heel when asked to. The problem I'm encountering is so many lurchers now have bull and other strong bite dogs in their lines, and I'm looking for a proper traditional lurcher with old fashioned greyhound, whippet, collie, wheaten, bedlington, deerhound type bloodlines. Please, don't suggest rehoming centres, we just can't do the 6ft fencing criteria. We are South West but realise that we may have to travel. If anyone knows of any present or upcoming litters please let me know. Many thanks.

I presume you have looked at the FB page Lurcher Link Rescue Chat? They are full to bursting, I have to sit on my hands daily to resist taking them all on! I’ve not seen them mention 6ft fences as standard. My Lurcher goes in the front garden with a standard fence as he has no idea he can jump 🤣 that page also has the occasional private rehoming too.

I'll have look thanks. We've been turned down a couple of times because we don't have an enclosed garden, and bearing in mind we used to dog home board and never had an escapee it can be very frustrating. Edited to say that they are Halifax, about 300 miles away.

That’s a shame, but I think they do rehome further afield via fosterers, could be worth getting in touch 😊 if not, our local rescues are full of lurchers and they didn’t even home check when i got mine.

Tracey Beauchamp on facebook is that way and runs a rescue for sight hounds. Happy to 100% recommend her. If anything happens to me, its where my 2 will go.

There is a beddy/whippet/grey litter in SW somewhere I saw today. Would have been Preloved/Gumtree or Pets4homes. I think they were in region of £500

I am just checking on the one I know of but it may have gone now. Lovely puppies bred by experienced horse and hound people. It is in Somerset though so with your user name not sure if you are in Ireland.

edited to say it has gone sorry

It makes me so sad that rescues are bursting with lurchers and staffies and people still buy puppies 😢
Because, like the op, many people won’t pass the rescues home checks for one reason or another. Rescues need to be more realistic about what a perfect home and responsible owners are.

I get that but a few white lies to pass the checks wouldn’t get checked on, like I said, we were asked loads of questions but none were checked out, yes if they do do home checks a 6ft missing fence is going to be apparent but our home wasn’t checked

There’s a group on Facebook called hairy sighthounds and lurchers and there are often lurchers looking for homes on there might be worth a look , there were some puppies on there a couple of weeks ago as well

The Dogs Trust have a lot in at the moment. My yard owner recently rehomed a lurcher from them and she doesn't have a secure garden. Working farm complete with sheep.

Plus, I want a very young dog without known issues to train up the way I want. I might rescue in the future but for now, I want 2 from the same litter and I doubt any rescue would allow that.

Some for sale in h&h ads click home at top of page, click horse for sale, click more categories to see them. Our local agricultural shop had some whippet ×bedlington pups for sale a month ago, I'll check if they are still for sale tomorrow.

Absolutely. Thank goodness we are all entitled to them. I hope you’d also never buy a horse but would get one from WHW or Blue Cross.

I don’t but i also don’t go out buying foals when there are plenty older horses needing homes. The rehoming centres generally don’t have my type of horse, if i wanted a black and white cob I absolutely would! I certainly wouldn’t be buying a foal and fuelling the low end horse market. The op wants a type of dog that rescues are brimming with, puppies included, i just don’t understand why you wouldn’t

Identityincrisis I have one rehome terrier and one I bought from a registered breeder as a pup. The rehome was shipped from Spain to UK for a family who changed their minds and a friend fostered him. I was specifically looking for a rehome female medium sized older dog to live with my old JRT. I could not find one to suit anywhere and ended up taking in the Spanish mixed breed small male terrier aged about 7 months. He's fab but has health and temprement issues which we are more than happy to deal with. I adore him. The old JRT passed away and I wanted another female JRT. Not one in any rescue I contacted would be able to live with another dog! Others could not have visiting children - we have a granddaughter. In the end I bought from a registered breeder exactly what I wanted and hoped for. I have a beautiful girl who is wonderful and gets on fine with my boy because she came as a pup and he remained "in charge".
People want what they want at different times and circumstances in their lives.
I shall rehome again willingly if it suits me but if not I shall pay for what I want from a known source and with a bit of luck get a known outcome (or a better chance of it).
