Hi everyone.

Just wondering if asking about a horse you used to have is considered a bit of a faux pas on here?

I'm wonderfully comfortable with my boy and love him to bits so it's not a stalker/hassle kind of thing, as if I'm hankering for my old boy, however on another forum the subject of my first horse came up and it would be nice to know how he's doing and see some new pics if the owner doesn't mind... Assuming they're online.

What does everyone think?

I am in touch with 3 of Tara's old owners/riders (one is a regular on this forum) - personally I'd say ask away :)

Im in touch with people that i have bought from and sold to - i think it shows how much the horse was cared for previously if someone wants to know how their getting on. I would def ask!

Ok... here goes...

My first boy (only on my second and hopefully last) was a big guy - Shire X TB and he should be around 16 years old now. He was sold by the owners I think last march or april and the story was he'd gone to Yorkshire to be a ride for "the husband", though I can't verify how true this was. I suspect take the location with a pinch of salt which might make this a teensy bit harder.

His name is/was Soldier.

He was alot bigger than his 16.3hh implied... He was an utter softy, could be ridden by anyone, bit of a kick along and doesn't much like going downhill. Always had to be reassured and half halted in case he decided he wanted to leg it out of the situation.

He would have come from Flint Mountain in North Wales, won't say exactly where and who unless someone has a lead and i'll PM them.

Always very good at giving great big mushy kisses when he wanted summin or just to say hello (wife had never seen a horse do this - not a "peck" kinda thing - more like getting a rubbery lip face massage) and would kill for a banana... Here are some pics (sorry they are a bit big and i'm really sorry - especially to Soldier for the utterly dire riding position - was only about my 2nd/3rd time on a horse - ever)

There was one that got sold down in Gloucester in the last couple of months because "husband had lost interest". Oh no I thought and I really had to look very closely at the stocking markings to make sure it wasn't him - just before my wife put her foot down and stopped a mercy dash down the A49... :)

Don't want him back - just like to see how he is doing and see if he's enjoying himself and being enjoyed and what he's getting up to. Probably going after chicken feeders again cos he had a taste for that too...

Thanks for reading this and if you have seen this boy let the owners know I'd love to hear about him :)

Not holding out alot of hope of tracing him but it would be nice to say hello. Would it be possible for admin to change the thread title? Something along the lines of "Looking for Soldier the Shire"?

Thanks.

I keep my horse and her old owners livery yard so I know all about her past and she knows all about her future which seems to be working just great. Also had a visit a couple of weeks ago from the old owners of our pony, again not a problem at all. If you and them are decent people with nothing to hide cant see why old and new owners cant be in touch.

Probably easier just to start a new thread with the new title?

I don't see how his new owners could possibly have a problem with this - the lovely people I bought Tobago from are still in touch with me all the time!

Got admin to change it :)

The problem i have is i didn't sell him. He was on loan to me. Because when I left it was very heated I couldn't say much or ask many questions. We were on one of those "keep your head down" yards and my wife and her horse were still there. No chance of getting any info especially now she's down at my yard now :)

Well I found out where he came from before I had him on loan. I also know the loaner bought him for 2500 and tried to sell him to me for 3500 only 4 months after she got him. I also know the old story of "I'm buying him and it will be his forever home and he'll be spoilt rotten" with a bit of showjumping and dressage... A complete crock and the first the original owner knew that he'd moved on. Ooops :)

Forums are a wonderful thing. So I know his past but not his future... Anyone see a big guy like this keep me in mind. I'd be most grateful.
