Hi Everyone

I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Rob. I am in need of help from the horse community and am really hoping that I will find it here.

This will take a bit of explaining.
Last year I completed a banger rally with some friends, along with other teams we drove from Lands End to John O'Groats in 5 days in a car worth less than £150 towing a caravan worth less than £150 ( we actually paid £100).
Anyway we really went for it as you can see by the pictures, but we did feel bad that we put in all that effort and missed out on the opportunity to raise some money for charity.

So we plan to do it again this year with a new theme. Instead of towing a caravan we are looking for an old horse box. Any condition considered but we would prefer the type with the pointed front. Due to the rules of the rally we cannot offer more than £150 for it but we can offer free sponsorship on the vehicle.

Also we are looking for a charity that involves horses that we can support. The default would be Riding for the disabled but is there any other charities that might need our help? We are based in Salisbury so anywhere on route from there to Lands end, up to John O and back again we may be able to visit en route.

Anyway I really hope you don't mind me posting this and that someone on here can help us out.

Rob

I have an old horse trailer but it would need a lot of work to become road worthy, we are also probably to far away!

Good luck with your search and please keep us updated as to how you get on!

That looks so much fun, bet you had a ball!
Sorry, can't help with a trailer but have you thought about Help For Heroes as your charity; there's also a spin off called Horses for Heroes and they're both to help our Servicemen so it would be a popular choice too.
Hope you have as much fun this year!

Wow, thanks for the replies. It was great fun and can't wait for this year though we have a lot of work to do.

3 Beasties, where are you based. I actually travel around alot and depending on what it needs done it may work.

I have watched a few boxes on ebay but they all finish over £150 so not had any luck yet but keep looking. If not my last resort is driving to a few farms I've seen with very tatty boxes and asking.

As for the charity it would be best to have something that isn't just horses. I don't have many horse mad friends so I'm not so sure how much support we'd get. Something involving humans as well would probably be best. We really are kicking ourselves that we didn't do it for Help for Heros last year. Would have been perfect. I guess we could this year instead.

Oh buy the way the actual theme for this year is going to be the space shuttle. We will be using the Volvo again and building it around this theme.

The farms is probably a good idea, I think a lot of old trailers end up used for on site storage

we used to have one for jump wings!

Can't help with a trailer but for a charity that helps horses and humans how about the Brooke??

They help working equines accross the globe. Idea being that these horses are peoples livlihood, and by supporting people so that they can look after the horses properly both the animal and the people benefit (if their horse is sick they can't work). They work with the Kalesh drivers in egypt, in africa, india, the former soviet union etc.

Their work is amazing and involves providing drinking water and vetinary car as well as training farriers, and training people to fit harnesses etc.
