I am hoping to get a lorry early next year (sorry I know it's ages away but am trying to plan ahead!) and was originally going to get a 3.5t as they are nice and compact and I thought it would be ideal as my first box.

The problem is I have 3 horses, a TB, a Welsh D and a Section A, although I'd probably only take one out at a time initially it would be nice in the future if I could take the two bigger ones out together and possibly all 3 together if the need arises so really a 3.5t may not be the best option long term.

After talking to a friend about it recently I am now wandering if it would be worth me getting a bigger lorry to give myself more freedom on what I can legally carry. What sort of size do you think would carry my 3 legally?

I think I would have to do some sort of Lorry/HGV test for anything over 3.5t so what is involved in this? What could I expect to pay for a course and test? And where can it be done?

Any advise would be much appreciated!

Yes better to take a test and get a 7.5 ton much better value than a 3.5 ton,and you want to carry more than one, however you need to make sure you know the unladen weight of any your thinking of buying as there are a lot of poorly built lorrys about that look fantastic with fancy LQs and lutons that can only legaly carry 1 horse!!! the best chance of something that will carry 3 is a box van conversion with day living and about an 18 ft container unless you have the budget for a pro light weight build, say a kevin parker very nice but $$$$$£££££sssss:D
