Am just intrigued was chatting to instructor tonight and she said she has three horses that between them have lost 5 shoes in 10 days and mine cannot seem to keep them on at all at the moment he has lost 3 in 15 days.

Is anyone else finding there horse is losing shoes more than normally? Wonder if the wet weather is having an effect with soft feet and mud.

Yup I have been thinking the same! maybe we all need new farriers!

*touches wood* mine is better than normal! H has managed to keep his last two sets on full term (4wks) for the first time in agggeeeesss!!! His feet are looking quite good too...my farrier says all feet should be looking half decent with this weathe aslong as horses arent stood in puddles 24/7 ;0

I am actually getting a bit peed off by it as it really disrupts everything and then you have to be very nice to the farrier to put them back on asap. I reckon in the field somewhere as damned if I can find them are 2 sets of nearly new shoes. I also now have a horse with crap feet. He is normally fine in the winter.

stan has lost 3 in the last 2 weeks. not as bad as some of your lot but normaly he goes 8 weeks with a set without a hiccup.

I can say that for my horses at least the weather is 100% to blame. Lately I've had more shoes off than on and it's driving me mad! It seems that their hooves (particularly the one who has 4 white hooves) get waterlogged and then they just seem to 'step' out of them, no damage caused.
Today when it was really wet I only turned them out for a couple of hours befroe I brought them in again, and they were absolutley smothered in kevin bacons before they went out to try and repel at least some water.
My farrier has been out 3 times in the last week, though still not as bad as last year when we'd just bought a new one who proceeded to lose 5 shoes in 3 days

Had problems lately. One horse was shod, 2 weeks later lost a front one ,had that put on £15. Next week lost other front shoe £15.Other horse 3 weeks after shoeing went to 3 day show and had to get a farrier to tighten them up [ luck it was at melton mowbray army and there were loads of farriers competing.]

Oh definitely - discussed it with the farrier the other day and concluded that it was the weather. Mainly seems to be a problem with white feet for me.

Blimey, I must remember to thank my farrier even more profusely than normal - horse pulled a shoe at Longleat, farrier came out and put a new one on - free - but forgot stud holes so came back and did those - free. I tried to pay him but he wouldn't take it! Whenever my last horse threw a shoe between shoeings he has put it back on free too.

it is a nightmare at the moment. i just dont know what is happening, the farrier has been coming out weekly to me as the horse just keeps losing shoes!!!

One of the horses at the yard has gone home as he keeps throwin shoes makeing life very dificult to school him properly.
Rad has held them well so far *touch wood* would hate him to loose one after all the problems we have had with them, he is shod every 3 weeks anyway atm.

Definitely the weather in my case. Horse was fine until it started tipping it down and he was stood out in mud and wet grass all day. I'm applying Kevin Bacons liberally before turning out and again when they come back in, and touch wood he's managed to keep his shoes on for almost 2 weeks

Prior to that he lost the same shoe two days running and a fair amount of hoof with it

Yep it is the weather making the feet very weak and soft.
Am told that 'keratex hoof gel' works wonders on this and stops water being taken in.

have had my mare 2years never lost a shoe. last two times of shoeing they are coming off in the stable over night after 3 weeks. new mare lost her first shoe after 5 days of shoeing. driving me mad. coming again tonight at 5pm to put shoes back on

I'm relieved (but sorry too) to hear that I'm not the only one. Ronnie's losing shoes virtually quicker then the farrier can put them back on, often the very next day! It's getting very frustrating I think for the YO and the farrier (I'm part livery). And poor Ronnie's off fore is now very bad condition.

Ru seems to be loosing them too, she had it on for a week before she decided she didn't like that one. I found it ( fortunatly) and it is now sitting waiting for the farrier!

I have not been loosing any shoes recently. only ever lost one i think *Touch wood*.

My farrier comes every 6 weeks he has not mentioned owners having shoes off more regually we drink together sometimes so he normally moans! - beginig of the hunting season is a favouite for loosing them in the mud.

sorry to say - i'm with you LL, this weather is grand for my boys,as normally in summer due to dry condition we lose shoes, this wet whether is grand for keeping my boys feet moist. Tis the only good thing, DEFO NOT enjoying muddy field, not cut hayledge yet

, shows getting cancelled left right and centre. So i think i would prefer the dry hot summer with flys and the more risk of losing shoes
