Just a whinge really... got absolutely no motivation to ride at the minute... can't afford any lessons or competitions so haven't really got anything to work towards.

Not so bad with my project horse as he just needs lunging :(

I have been a bit the same since after Christmas and the last few weeks the ground has been frozen so not done much at all, so I made a decision to start a fresh this week so one got lunged today and I will ride the other one tomorrow as I need to clip the other one so won't have time to ride them both, so I will ride them both on Wednesday and I will make sure I do something with at least one of them everyday and it won't take me long to get back into it, I have our first show of the year in march so need to just get on with it and get my act together.

just remember only a month of winter left really :)

I never regret it when I get on and go for a ride, but I do feel pants when I can't be bothered and just slop home. So when I feel motivation slipping away I throw the tack on without thinking and just cracking on with whatever tickles my fancy. Within a few minutes I'm usually enjoying it and feeling pleased to have made the effort.

Can you set yourself some fun little training goals, op? Or get a book with some exercises in and pick a new one each day? Online shows? Explore new having routes or do some groundwork?

Either way it's not TOO long til the clocks change and it'll all get easier... would be nice to go into the lighter evenings with horses that are already fit and ready to go ;)

I am feeling the same. This is my first year wintering in & after a day at work, then mucking out etc it's gone 7pm. I am full of aches & the cold is agonising (Thanks Reynauds). I have a floodlit, rubber surfaced school at my yard, just lost my mojo a bit.

Feel free to deliver a good sound boot to my bum.

I would give anything to ride at the moment! I haven't been able to sit on a horse since I had my accident in August.

Get on the horse, do a challenge with friends where you all do a dressage test and get someone to score you, go for a hack somewhere different......

awww Wimbles, I would hate to be stuck like that desperate to ride but not able to :(
Puts it all into perspective doesn't it? Revolting wet day here today but horses in so they need exercising ;) It's mind over matter, sometimes - can't bear the thought of riding in the cold sopping rain but actually once you get going it's fine. Kira and I had a mega fun workout this morning which was definitely worth getting rain soaked undies for

This is so true. I find goal setting really helpful, particularly at this time of year when there's a greater temptation just to slop home and hibernate. I usually tell myself 20 minutes of constructive work is far better than an hour slog, so I pick a few things I need to work on that night and once that's achieved I call it a night.

Just keeping mine ticking over at the moment. There isn't a solid piece of ground within 5 miles of the yard, hate riding on the road and the school is currently being dug up to put in replacement drains and new surface. It will be great when it's done (in about a month) but at the moment, it hardly seems worth tacking up .....

Chin up everyone ... spring is nearly here.

I stopped riding just before Christmas as I was so busy with family staying etc. Since the New Year I have been quite unwell and also got a new puppy ...... I just cant find the time to bring mine and my OH's horse back into work and really cant see it happening any time soon, if at all! Just got no energy or enthusiasm. :(

Struggling as well, had just got myself motivated when school ring for me to pick up son who had banged his eye. Now watching jungle book, lol.

Ridden once this month. I can't bear to be outside for one minute longer than necessary in this weather. Horses are out from 7 til 3 so they aren't bothered.

It's so tough at this time of year!
I find that if I push myself to ride I feel genuinely happier for it all round!
I easily fall into a slippery slope of bad weather=day off then if you've done two days off a third won't matter and so on...

As everyone said it won't be long to Spring! Don't beat yourself up about it.
