I have really lost interest in riding and just being with my horse. She's a nice mare with a lot going for her, so should I just be done with it all and sell her? Or do I hold on to her and hope my interest comes back. At the moment I literally check she's alive and well and go home again. She's on assisted livery so someone checks her once a day also.

Cant help feeling its a bit of a waste really. I haven't seen her for a few days and I dont really miss it at all. Sounds awful but its the truth

What do you think? D? I cut my losses or hold on for a bit/

why dont you put her out on loan that way if your interest comes back you can still have your mare back

That is what i would do.

Or you could sell her?

well either find someone who wants to ride her so at least shes not just being left or sell her on, if you really aren;t interested anymore theres little point keeping her, if its just a phase then perhaps letting someone else ride her for a bit might give you time to assess whether your enthusiasm will return.

Could just be the time of year.... must admit, my interest is a bit lacking at the moment...

But come the sunshine etc and hopefully I will be ok again.

If you really think you are done, try the loan idea if you can. Then you can have a complete break and assess if you really want to give up.

To be fair, no one says you have to be interested forever,. but in fairness to your horse and you it would be good to make a decision.

That was what I ideally wanted to do (put her on loan) but its such a hash - that said I haven't had any interest anyway so Im stuck there.
Id let her go for silly money now because she's not doing anything and she's 9 now so is getting on a bit.

Sell her. I think you're mad

but then when it's raining and cold and muddy I can't blame you. I'd find her a home that appreciates her for herself, and if your interest comes back, I'd get another. Or even just have riding lessons/share, if the workload is too much...

That sounds like a good idea smoochy, I do worry though about where she'd end up. I owe it to her to find her a very good home where she will be kept, thats one of my biggest fears - if they sold her on to someone bad or whatever. Its a minefield selling nowerdays.

LOAN, i bet if you sell her and you come back into intrest you will be gutted because you will want your mare back. I would put her on loan and if the intrest doent come back i would sell her to your loaner if they wanted to buy her (most cases they do) and at least if you like the loaner and you think they are treating your horse correctly then you no she is going to a good home

Damn that sounds like a good idea as well! Just got to find someone to loan her thats the problem. I dont know why we've had no interest, although i did put she was to stay at cuyrrent yard - maybe that is the problem.

Maybe check to see if you really have lost interest or whether you're just in a rut? Book some lessons, do a pleasure ride, go to a few comps? Even if she's not fit, she could prob manage a dr test or a cr & it would give you something to work towards? Read some 'how to' books, go on channel 280 & watch some sj? Go out for a hack with some friends?

Maybe the urge will come back?

It sounds good catembi but I just dont feel compelled to be at the yard with her or anything.
To be honest I think it all stems from other yard members trying to bully/chide me into riding her over the winter (when I was strapped for time) and I think Im just a bit sick of it all. That said, Im not missing riding or being down the yard. I wish I felt like I wanted to ride and things but I just dont. Shame the local college isnt looking for horses otherwise she could go there on working livery.

The trouble is, sometimes the less you do, the less you *want* to do... That's what I find happens with me & the gym...

Maybe try having one last effort of riding every other day for a fortnight or something, & then decide for definite after that? It's warmer & the clocks are changing soon, so now's the time to give it one last go?

She is excellent hacking alone or in company, great in traffic. Good to load although a bit stubborn. 9yo.Good to shoe, dentist etc. Loves to XC, would make a good hunter as just tries to jump anything she's asked to. Not so hot SJ, but she tries. Her schooling is good but lacks finesse but that could change. She's just a nice little mare but she will nip you if she's got one of her heads on. Thats her drawback.

i think for loan putting to saty in current yard def causes a prob, try without that then really have alist of questions/inspection points you would do if someone want s to keep her elsewhere. i'm sure if you were careful you'd find her a lovely loan home.

I am also offeing to cover half her livery costs, thought that would be tempting but no..
Onwards down the spiral of glumness over this..

She sounds perfectly sellable, but for a price that reflects the above. If it's the responsibility that you are backing down from, then imo loaning isn't going to help. Good luck.

She sounds nice. I would sell if I was you. You can always buy or loan another horse if your interest comes back in future but it sounds like you need a break. Better to sell now while shes on the right side of 10.

"she was to stay at cuyrrent yard - maybe that is the problem."

Yeah, try looking for a loan and don't include that before selling her. we had to not go and look at a couple of loans because they wasn't them kept at the current yard, but because we allready have horses, we can't move yards.
