lump on neck... any ideas

as above.. my boy came in yesterday with a swollen neck on one side.
he looked very sorry for himself and very fed up.
its a flat lump about the size of 3 of my hands, right in the middle of his neck and up to his crest, it feels hard and there is heat their.
it is only on one side and very sore if i touch it or push it.
he isn't lame. i have given him 2 bute today and will give some more tomorrow.
i think he has had a fall in the field and pulled a neck muscle.
anyone else had this or any ideas..
have posted in vet as well

Don't suppose it could be a bite which hasn't gone through the skin but badly bruised him do you?

This, or an allegic reaction to an insect bite, although they might not be so painful? Or what you thought.

Has he been vaccinated recently? If so possible vaccine reaction? My friends horse could not move his neck once after a vaccine.

thanks for that.....Yes he had his jabs on monday before xmas. so it could be that.
but would it take that long to have a reaction..
did call vet who gave me some bute.
his a lot brighter today, so fingers cross its something silly as i am off on holiday tomorrow and need to know his ok before i go.
he will be very well looked after when i am away as going to a 5* livery..
i would post a photo of it, but don't now how too.
can anyone tell me how too... cheers
