Yes mine was german too - also used to put a leather line between the ends of the long shanks and lead off their for the feisty ones too - prob get shouted at now LOL!

Can you get side-pulls over there? These are just like bit bridles and work perfectly. I haven't lunged in a hackamore so no advice there from me sorry.

I'd lung in a headcollar - with one or two reins - depending on the horse and i've got 3 that you can do this with at least - but not with a hackamore

leverage is too severe
