Lush and hunting

Just had an absolutely fascinating conversation with a woman in Lush.

I asked at the till for her to check that none of my purchases would give money to the sab charity. She said they didn't but asked if I'd mind explaining why.

I told her that I disagreed with the charity, not because I agree with hunting (because I didn't agree with fox hunting) but because some of their methods were questionable at best, with blood on their hands at worse. And I said that I couldn't believe lush were supporting a charity who behaved like that.

She said that she's never heard of some of the nasty things, but has heard that a sab was beaten to a pulp recently by a hunt?? And that she was sure that many hunts still did kill foxes. I said that I couldn't be sure but explained that the ones I know of now do not and some chase scents/people.

Anyway, no real point to this but I thought it was interesting. She said she's going to go off and read more about hunting (I explained that alot is about tradition and the hounds working) and she said she'd discuss with her boss whether she could discuss with head office about the charity choice.*

I left wondering if hunts do still hunt real life foxes? And thinking how lovely it was that two 20odd year olds could have a civilised conversation about a controversial issue.*

I still buy Lush as I just adore their products but I always make sure none of my money goes to the Sabs (Honey08 - Sabs are hunt saboteurs who aren't always the nicest of people. There are several threads on here about them.) I'm not particularly pro-hunting but I'm not anti either so it has nothing to do with the ban, I just think that the sabs are pathetic and should have no right to call themselves animal lovers. I also educate every Lush shop I go into about them :)

I will not step foot into a Lush shop.....I do not agree with their choice of charity either...can it be called a charity?... I think what they do is totally and utterley disguisting and I always cover my nose up walking past the shop as it stink...

I much prefer body shop!.... :)

What have the horses done so wrong?

Its a shame that they support the charity because of pure ignorance, you would think they would do a bit of research before supporting such a charity!

I am pretty sure it was one product that sent the profits to supporting Sabs. Therefore I will no longer shop in Lush and also spread the word to others as well.

Umm.. the person who said hunts still kill foxes.. that is illegal. Please be careful saying that - there are huntsman/associates already being prosecuted for "apparently" having killed a fox deliberately.

though a couple of years ago, a hunt I knew actually had some foxes killed ... when the sabs ran it over..

ive never liked Lush, i cant stand the smell from the shop that penetrates the whole high streets, it physically turns my stomach, and now i know they are supporting the sabs i really dont like lush!!!!

I do believe it's necessary to control the fox population.
I'm not sure it is - at least, not everywhere that foxes are hunted. Many more foxes are killed on our roads than by huntsmen, yet the population always recovers to roughly the same level, year on year. So I don't think it's right to say that, without hunting, there would be an "explosion" in the fox population.

However, I am happy to be corrected if anyone can point me to any authoritative research showing otherwise.

Glad I am not the only one that thinks this....I have to cover my nose up...it's viel! :(

I also tell my hubby (whose heard it a million times) what they do....in a very loud voice so that passers by can hear me....I do tend to get some strange looks...

Shame not everyone is educated to what Lush are about..

Absolutely love Lush's stuff, I used one of their cleansers and it's the only cleanser in the world that works for my skin. Not pro-hunting or pro-sab but whatever, my skin likes them!

I think the thing that threw me is that she thought she was supporting a charity that was basically 'support the foxes' rather than anti hunt. I did explain that I actually disagree with foxes being ripped to shreds for sport, BUT that I hugely disagreed with some of the actions of the sabs. She hadnt heard of any of these nasty activities.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting. xxxx
