M6 closed near Birmingham after horse box crash

Urgh this has made me feel so sick! I was in the area yesterday and was wondering if traffic was always so horrendous in the area. Now I wish it was rather than it being a result of such a horrible accident :(

All so very tragic, poor horses and the people that got injured i hope they make a full recovery. So pleased to hear the other 2 are doing well, they must've been petrified and how amazing that they loaded after such a horrific accident. Also hope the little dog gets found safe and sound.

Yes this me Curt Composure doing my thing on my Snake Board, I honestly didn't mean to disrespect anybody by doing this and i am very sorry if anybody was offended i didn't know the severity of the accident which was taking place a few miles ahead. i was merely stretching my legs after a long journey and it was made clear to us by motorway patrol we would be at complete standstill for a further 4hours.

reading on a drivers forum that both horsebox and van were stationary and occupants outside of vehicles when struck by the hgv?

This is what many people are wondering.

Hope drivers make a good recovery and the tragic event can be pieced together more clearly.

It's lovely of the poster who keeps updating on the surviving pony's at their yard :)

Have to say someone on a skateboard didn't offend me, and obviously had no bearing on the outcome of the accident - I doubt he went past jeering at the rescue crews.

ischa, riding a skateboard whilst stuck in a 6 hour que of stationary traffic with no idea what has caused it! I am sure he is not the first or last to be selling icecream, having a pick-nick or starting a game of football. A horrible situation but your comments really are a little over the top, in my humble oppinion.

update on the two surviving ponies, they left our yard this afternoon to be looked after by friends of the family. We have just had a call to say they have arrived safely &travelled well. The grey pony had a few injuries & got a touch of colic yesterday morning so the vets obviously would not let them travel, we kept an eye on him along with the vets & by this morning everything began working as normal & the vet gave the all clear for him to travel. They have both been a pleasure to look after and dont seem to traumatised at all.608 vets have taken excellent care of them especially Sarah who attended at the scene & back at our yard.
Its horrible to get called out to these type of incidents as transporters but we were happy to be able to help these ponies whilst the owner was obviously unable to,I like to think someone would do the same for us,we wish her a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the update, and thank goodness for transporters. It really is awful when you have horses on the side of the motorway and a smashed up lorry/trailer.

Rip little dog if it's true.

Thankyou for sharing. At least that is some good news.

Thank you so much for the update, I am on the verge of tears (soppy cow) so happy that the 2 horses are off home safe and sound. My heart truly goes out to those injured and the poor horse who has died & the wee JRT who must have been petrified.

I too don't believe the man on the skate board was doing any harm or showing any disrespect as I am sure any one of us would have gotten out and stretched our legs

Further update on 2 surviving ponies, I collected them this afternoon from the transporters who had done a fantastic job in collecting and caring for them.
They are staying with us (as friends of the family) until they are fit enough to travel home. Both loaded well and travelled quietly and happily. Settled in their new stables eating and drinking well. Fingers crossed they will make a full recovery along with their owner:)

Pleased to hear the ponies are recovering, lets hope their owner makes a full recovery too. I am sure there must be lots of HHO vibes heading her way!

So sad about the little dog though.

The owner is doing well all things considered, being very well looked after in the QE hospital, looking forward to getting out and seeing her ponies very soon.:)

Truly awful accident... Made my blood run cold.
My mums horse was badly injured after the neighbour rolled her trailer with 2 horses in it (360 degrees nose to tail)
This was also on the Motorway, and yes she was driving too fast.
Thankfully a vet was 2 cars behind and was able to sedate both horses straight away. Seeing the pics on the side of the motorway bought back those memories, and pics in the press.

Please pass on my condolences to the owner for the tragic loss of her pony, and little dog - utterly heartbreaking.
And hope she is home & recovered very soon so she can be with her ponies who have lived to tell the tale.
