Making turn out rugs more visible?

My Rambo turnouts have reflective strips on, as per pic. It’s quite eerie seeing disembodied silver flashes moving around the field . These would be good places to retro fit reflective material to without risking compromising the weatherproofing of the rug.

I always find that reflective strips only work without mud all over them. My horse makes it his life's work to cover everything and himself in mud so I found the reflective bits only worked for about a week before I had to start washing them off all the time. If you have a clean soul then just glue on reflective strips.

They sell reflective poppies for dogs at the moment, they clip onto collars, but would easily clip onto buckles, legs straps etc too. They show up really well on my dogs running around in the field, so would on horses too. A cheap and easy solution and you'd also be donating to a good cause.

Every time a hi viz coat or vest dies I unpick the reflective tape and keep it for sewing onto rugs etc. Our winter field is along a dark country lane so I need to be visible to cars as I’m turning out.

I've got a hi viz Masta rug. The whole thing including the neck, is bright reflective yellow. It's a bit startling in the daytime.

(Disclaimer - I didn't buy it, it came with a horse we bought! )

Horse in our field had a bright yellow hi viz rug too. Fortunately it only lasted one winter. I could just imagine the poor boy telling his mates, that it wasn't his fault and that his owner only bought it because it was cheap.

Oh the joys of wondering around a field with a torch in the pouring rain 😬
Only 5 months left 🥴
Or we could just leave them out 🙈
Yeah right 😅

To be fair, he *is* supposed to be living out! I moved yards this summer especially for the 24/7 turnout in all but the deepest, darkest winter. Mine, despite being the only full native on the yard, decided about mid-October he's absolutely not living out and comes in at night ... leaving every other horse out but him.

Thank you for all your suggestions, it's much appreciated :) It looks like I'm buying metres of reflective tape!

Reflective tape is definitely the way forward. Like someone else mentioned, I have stuck bits of old hi-viz coats on to buckles etc. before!

Sorry to derail the thread a little, but -

My PEs have reflective strips on them too - its's v simple to locate my horse in the dark, I just scan the field with a high powered head torch (it's 11 acres) and walk towards the glow!

What head torch is this?!
Sounds great!
