Making your own muscle wash for post xc

I use radox! And I also use muscle wash although I know it as slosh wash. I find it lifts sweat off slightly better than water alone and makes my horse smell better. If it doesn't anything else, then great. Its not expensive and lasts ages as well. I'm going to try dettol and some peppermint oil or similar when my current one runs out though.

Precisely.
That’s about as much use as it has and that is absolutely fine!

I’ll hot cloth in Epsom salt and dettol, but am under no illusion it’s some wonder muscle formula post hard exercise

I like to use a tea tree and mint shower gel if I'm really hot and sweaty or if I'm knackered and tired. The smell alone perks me up and I always feel extra clean and tingly!

Is it doing me any good physically? Maybe not but I feel more refreshed than if I was just using plain water. And I like using it ?

When I was younger and rode/competed regularly I always used to use the peppermint Barrier wash if the pony was really sweaty or in the hot weather and the lavender one in winter.

Did it make any difference to the pony? No idea but they seemed to enjoy it and they always smelt good ?

I have also used a citronella wash in the summer.

Methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) is what is in Deep Heat. "Known for its antispasmodic properties, wintergreen oil helps create a deep, long-lasting warmth to aching muscles, bones and joints. Our soothing deep heat rub penetrates deep into the muscles relaxing any tension and helping relieving pain." so the internet says. Apparently it is a topical analgesic and triggers TRPA1, which triggers our burning cold response – emphasis on burning and the heat channel TRPV1, the same channel that chilli pepper’s hot chemical culprit capsaicin provokes.

So if used at a high enough concentration it will definitely be doing something!

It's closely related to acetylsalicylic acid. Aka aspirin. Iirc a common cause of ASA overdose is use of oil of Wintergreen.

Hydration is paramount. Nothing that you apply to the skin will effect Muscle.

really? whenever I've pulled muscles badly I've either been given difine (spelling) or told to rub over the counter muscle rubs on it to ease pain. I'm the worst at sciences stuff, but I find it hard to believe that rubs and creams can't affect muscles?
