Malthouse EC - shocking behaviour !!!

Mmmm, not suer there is enough evidence there to say its a bad place! All it shows is someone riding a quad bike following a horse.

Pretty awful I agree, shame it's not a bit longer as we cant see what led to it or if he was simply stupid and in a hurry to get through the gate as he appeared 'clueless' as to what he had done wrong. She was obviously very upset but this may have been totally unrelated to him and that she had had a 'bad' 5 mins with the horse. If this is as it seems Malthouse EC have a bit of explaining to do over their employees actions.....

I'm not shocked. In fact, I couldn't really care less. I don't see what the problem is? The only thing I can contemplate is that you're suggesting the horse was upset by the quad, which was neither especially close to the horse, nor a particularly unusual sight on a yard...

The clip is a bit short, what was going on ?

I get the impression that the member of staff (think its a woman ) on the quad was being asked by the rider not to follow so close on the quad as horse was getting upset and that said member of staff was ignoring the request.

Personally I wouldn't have had an issue with someone on a quad but then my horse doesn't really give two hoots.

Can understand why rider would get angry if their horse was getting upset though, especially if they had asked staff member not to do something and been ignored.

TBH I dont really think the quad was that close although revving up was a bit annoying, surely it would be better just to ride through the gate and stand to one side to let the quad through? Rider seems over the top upset which is why I thought she may have been upset by something unseen or unrelated.

As to the sex of quad rider who I assumed was male..... if female oops sorry :D

From what I can hear (for those lacking in sound), the rider is asking the lady on the cob to stop or back off and she keeps coming closer, rider sounds very panicked then the guy filming says "you did go forward and I filmed it" and quad lady turns engine off.

It's a very short clip to be fair to work out what happened prior to this, the quad lady looks totally unaware of whats going on.

The clip is pretty short so it's hard to know what is going on except the girl on the horse has asked the quad rider 3 times to back off from behind her horse , looks like the quad rider has then revved it up a bit more - which is pretty uncalled for IMHO . We use a quad and our lot are fine , but i certainly wouldn't go up behind my boy and rev up , doesnt take much to plant the seed of doubt in a horses mind and scare them , even if you think they'll be ok.

Thanks for the transcript :)

I found the womans face quite entertaining tbh!
I'd like to go "undercover" on a few centres i know, would probabally find far worse!

However, the lady on the horse sounded like she had asked the woman to stop, presumably because her horse was getting upset, but was ignored. She sounded pretty worried, yet the quadie didn't seem to care much.

I would of got quite annoyed if a member of staff, where i was paying to compete, was trying to drive a quad bike up my horse's bum when i had asked it to stop.
I didn't see the horse particuarly reacting, so might of been a bit of an overreaction, but even still.

IF that is what's going on - then yes I'd be upset too.

Just rewatched closely, at first rider hasnt quite reached the gate and she is standing still with her horse quite calm and to the right of the quad, she says to the quad rider... '' stop it, stop chasing my ******* horse'' quad then starts to move forwards and rider says ''stop it or I wont leave''. There appears to be much more to this than meets the eye, has the clip been cut short purely to give Malthouse bad press? It is poss the quad rider is trying to get the rider to leave the area, A story behind this me thinks???

Maybe the OP could come back and tell us the story behind this then.......

Agree with this, the clip is very short, maybe for a reason.

I wouldn't jump to condemn just based on this clip.

my initial thoughts were that the rider is (for example) trespassing and being escorted off the premises.... then the quad has every right to be following her

Rider says to quad woman, 'Stop chasing my horse !'. Quad woman continues to move nearer. Rider, now sounding slightly hysterical says' I'm asking you to stop chasing my horse or I won't *******ing leave.'.

Man filming then intervenes.

I get the impression that the quad woman is trying to make the rider leave the field and the rider has some issue with this request. In the clip, the horse does not look unduly worried, but the rider is screaming at the woman, which could exerbate the situation.
Quad woman is not helping by continuing to move up behind the horse.

Just wondering why the rider has been asked to leave the field and whether the horse is spooked by the quad or by the riders reaction, - if it is actually spooked.

The few moments don't really show the whole story, so its difficult to judge who is being unreasonable.

Actually, on second thoughts when she says "or i won't leave", it does sound like she shouldn't be there in the first place.

She looks like she's xc-ing there, so maybe not deliberatly trespassing, but entered the wrong field or something?!

I can shed some light. The clip was taken at a ht yesterday. The class was running late so they wanted the competitor to go to the start before she Was ready. When she said she wasn't ready the person on the quad proceeded to 'drive' her to the start by running the quad up the horses backside
This went on for a lot longer than the clip showed.
The rider asked her to stop several times and the quad rider refused and continued chasing her from the field to the start. The horse was scared as wad the rider
She withdrew from the competition

So the rider was asked to go to the start but said she wasn't ready and refused while continuing to warm up ?Then had a temper trantrum and withdrew ?
If she wasn't ready, there are better ways of dealing with it. Sounds like bad behaviour.

Totally unacceptable then, is this how they treat their customers who are maybe running late, would a few moments have made any difference.
I think the comment with the video "this time caught on video" may imply that this is not the first time something may have happened at this venue.

As posted on another forum showing same clip.....
The venue was running late - not the rider.

"I was taking part in a hunter trial, had done pairs class with a friend, been given times, was ready for my 2ft6 class, venue was runnign late, btu had not told us they were running late, so warmed up ready, went to start field, owner came out on a quad bike, rode it at my horse and I, told me to get out, they weren't ready - I turned to leave and she drove quad bike up behind my horse, twice I turned and asked her to back off, not to chase my horse, then my husband started videoing (apologies for the language...I was quite scared and cross!)

Needless to say I didn't stay and compete.

There were about 4 people watching and yelling at her to back off and she just kept coming! "

No. She withdrew following the steward chasing her and her horse on a quad! If you think being herded to the start by a angry woman on a quad is acceptable then that's fine but in my book it is not! If some one revved a quad up the back end of my horse I Would have been in the next county.
the rider originally asked the quad rider nicely to stop but she refused

That certainly sheds light on it.

Totally unacceptable, I hope they take it further.

The quad driver is the person that leases Malt House from the water board.
She is not someone you want to upset ;)

Either way she should be reported to the Health and Safety Executive and the Local Council (who will issue her with a licence to hold the event) to ensure she's duly sanctioned.

Not good, not good at all.
