Hello all,

I rarely post on here so am feeling a bit bad asking for advice, but I’m having a tough time deciding on which company to go with for building an outdoor manège. I’ve scoured some old threads on this subject but quite a few of the companies people recommended years ago appear to have stopped trading or are miles away.

There don’t seem to be many companies close to me (I’m in Worcestershire). If anyone has had any good experiences with companies then I’d love to hear who they are - even if they aren’t in my area as they may travel. It would also be great to hear from people whose maneges have been down a while and they are holding up well.

Thanks very much!

I used to recommend avoiding one particular company after they fitted a duff arena at work, charged us more to try to put it right, then went 'bust' yet continued to trade from the same phone numbers, same staff, same premises... but...

I believe they have gone 'bust' again, and I don't know their current trading name, but my advice would be to look up the company you propose to use at Companies House, and also check any other companies with the same details (directors, address etc).

If a director has had many companies, or if an address has had several companies, then I would strongly suggest that they are doing a poor job and regularly going broke so they don't have to fulfil the guarantee.

The guarantee for ours was supposedly with a separate company, but unsurprisingly, really, that company went broke at the same time.

We used Elmtree construction. Bruce took me to see an arena that he had built locally to me which was very nice. My trainer at the time also knew him. He had good suggestions for the design and I think we have a better arena than if he had done what I had originally asked for. It’s been down for 3 years now and it’s still great and my current trainer loves it. I did pay them to come back to repair my membrane after foxes dug through it, which they did in a very timely fashion, so I would definitely recommend them.

Thanks very much for these recommendations. I’ve contacted Pegasus - I can only find good feedback about them online, so that’s a great sign. I’ll also look up Elmtree as a comparison on cost with Pegasus. Cheers all!

I had a good experience with pegasus. Very knowledgeable and reliable. We had an awkward site and they were great.
