Real friends understand when you don’t have the money to do things. Real friends don’t make you feel embarrassed. It’s not ‘just £20’ if you don’t have it in the first place.

I budget like crazy so I can afford pretty things that make me smile and that’s what’s life’s about.

A majority of my friends are horsey but I have some very good very long term friends who are not horsey at all. And they understand that I can’t go for meals every weekend or lavish trips (especially last minute!).

You seem to be trying to keep up with their lives but have they shown any interest in yours? Do they make the effort to come to anything horsey with you or is it all about shopping trips and meals?

Discuss it openly like adults - there shouldn’t be a taboo subject between friends - and I repeat, real friends understand. Friendships run deeper than how you spend money.

This is so true.

I am also one who likes pretty things. I also have my own maintenance to keep up with (hi-lights, nails etc) which I like having done and have done since I before I remember!

No effort as yet :-( maybe they think they're not invited, so someone else on this thread suggested I invite them to a show so they can see what I do which I absolutely will do. Will be interesting to see the reaction.

Id be invlined to invite them to me for a lunch / dinner at your place… put the boot on the other foot, so to speak . You could show them your new life or not when they are with you… but youd see them with out travelling and you could make lunch or go to the local pub etc …

Definitely. I think there's something in me though I always seem to be the guest, never the host. I feel like a burden dragging people to see me when if it's just me I can go no bother. Also no pressure to host / make sure everyone has a good time.

And as said earlier on, I always assume people will say no or flake so think what's the point. Bit pessimistic I know.
