If that is referring to what I said about the LEZ, venues didn't close, a couple of livery yards chose not to hold clinics or very small unaffiliated shows on their premises but carried on as livery yards and most still exist charging much more than yards outside. There was lots of noise and complaining at the time but people just updated their vehicles and carried on.
Exactly "most" not "all" so some closed and those venues that could no longer support shows does have a knock on effect for those catering vans, stalls and people who supply rosettes, box hire etc who rely on these to help make ends meet. Most people can't afford to simply go out and just buy a new vehicle which will have a huge impact on all kinds of small businesses not just equestrian related ones
You are correct. I have already seen comments on Facebook saying that they won’t be able to afford to compete at venues in side the clean air zone because of the additional cost.
Exactly, I know quite a few, myself included who sadly won't be visiting venues inside the zone because the extra cost just isn't worth it (on a positive note we will be exploring other new places though) I also know a few who's jobs will sadly no longer be viable

This was 10 years ago at least. When I said most still exist I was thinking of 1 that closed recently for unrelated reasons. No yards in the area north of London closed as a result of the LEZ and at least one opened. I know of more that have closed outside.

The box hire locally is LEZ compliant being 3.5t lorries for self drive or driven, this is nothing to do with the LEZ but more that you have a bigger hire market as fewer people are able to drive bigger without taking an additional test.

The people who lost out were those with 7.5t lorries, I know a couple that swapped to car and trailer so not necessarily more expensive but they lost the convenience of having a living.

Very occasionally it could cause an issue if having a horse delivered on a shared load in that you have to make sure you use a transporter that can get in or switch to a smaller vehicle for the last leg.

I'm not saying the geography and situation in Manchester is the same, it's not my area but you can't use North London as an example of terrible consequences.

Apparently GM councillors have voted to refer the CAZ back to government today. I’m not sure exactly what that might mean but there may be changes to be made.
I don’t oppose the idea of it but it’s the fact it’s applied to the whole of GM that I have issue with some 400 square miles I believe and I also think there’s a bigger issue on the cost of living, impact on small businesses ect issues which this impacts at a time a lot of businesses are trying to get back on their feet.

My husband is a farrier and although we live outside Greater Manchester, in the course of his work he crosses the zone several times a day. His van is non-compliant and to get a second hand replacement van that doesn't have ridiculously high mileage is going to cost over £15k. Financial aid is only available on new vans. No idea what we're going to do.

unfortunately he will have no choice other than to pass the charge onto his clients. It is a stealth tax. If they genuinely wanted clean air they would be charging private vehicles to force us onto public transport and actually investing in public transport To encourage people to use it more.

I currently have a 7.5t, was looking to downsize before all this as I only have one pony now. It will cost £60 a day to drive my lorry, even to just get fuel. There is a concession if it is reclassed as a private HGV (leisure users, non reward) but Ive read that is for 12 mths only and you have to jump through hoops to get it. Ive also read someone applied and got refused??? Surely its either for leisure or for commercial use.
I can get my head around £10, not ideal but its looking like no choice there, but seriously how many people can afford to buy compliant horseboxes. If I could I would, Id love a nice shiny posh horsebox :)

I'm not quite sure where the border is, but I saw one of the signs yesterday and it was between the M6 and one of the equine vet practices (also a show venue) - so might not be great for them if people are having to pay £60 in tax to drive the remaining half mile down the road to get their horse to the vets.

I think my box will be £10 a trip, but thankfully there's not really any venues I compete at in the zone, just have to be careful not to need fuel driving back from somewhere!
