This morning my friends mare died foaling. She is looking for foster mother for the foal.
she has the phone number of the National Foaling Bank but is also looking for anyone with a recently foaled mare who might take on the foal.
If anyone can help please pm me with your email or phone number and i'll pass it on to her.
the foal is in mid-wales.
Thankyou

Can't help but so, so sorry to hear this

so sorry to hear this. please get her to ring Johanna Vardon at the National Foaling Bank, she is absolutely brilliant. i hope your friend has managed to get some colostrum down the foal. hope you find a great foster mum for the foal a.s.a.p.
horsequest has a page of foster mares etc available, worth a look.

Sorry to hear about this.Have you tried phoning all the local studs, and the national foaling bank is very useful, especially with advice on doing a fostering.I have some colostrum(small amount)in my freezer if you need it.I know i probably shouldnt put this where everyone can see it but here is my number 07525822613(im not going be near my pc very much today)

Would this be the same one posted about earlier today, J, that's somewhere mid Wales? If so, I have passed the numbers on to my friend who lost her foal the other day; let's hope they can help one another.

Roughly where in Mid Wales would be useful to know as it's a rather large area

It really is worth sending your mare/foal along way away to get both mare and foal through this.
My mare is currently in dorset looking after an orphan foal and it was a very hard desission to send her all that way,but going up to see her a few weeks later i knew i had made the right choice.I still miss her like mad,but it really is only for a short time.
Encourage your friend to do what is right by her baby.I know it is hard.

THANKYOU to everyone who is trying to help.
I have just been on the phone to Judith and Alan. they are in touch with the National Foaling Bank and have had an offer from Scotland for a foster mum but Alan doesnt think that is feasable due to the distance involved.
Alan says they have plenty of colostrum.
I dont know any more at this point.
Thankyou, all.
The foal is near to Builth, Mid Wales.

so sorry to hear of the loss. hope foal finds a foster mum ASAP.

((((((((((((((((((huge vibes for owner(s))))))))))))))))))))))))

unfortunately (sp) i cannnot offer any help about a foster mum

After reading Perissa's post about the desperate search for a foster mare, I spoke to a friend of mine as she had a friend whose mare had given birth a little early - nobody was ready for it - they found the afterbirth in the field in the morning but no sign of the foal at all. Poor mare frantic. Foal may have been born dead and eaten by foxes. Anyway, I needed to get this news to Perissa's contact so rang Philippa and Lisa (the vets dealing with it) to give them this contact number and hallelujah they told me that a mare had been located and was being loaded onto a lorry as we spoke. Fingers crossed this works out but if not, my friend's mare is a Plan B. This forum is an amazing community where everyone pulls together to help each other. 3 cheers for H&H Forum xxx
