Im after some information from others with a similar experience please as a new experience for me.
Ive had my rising 6 mare for 10 months now ,always been a bit hormonal coming into season and have her on Oestruss.
She has previously had a foal at 3 and is an Irish sport horse.
She has seasoned all year round and has had signs of coming into season almost permanantly for the last 6 weeks but has become increasingly irritable on the ground ,dislikes being touched anywhere from the girth backwards ,has kicked the walls in temper and raised a leg if you go to touch her,all out of character.
Luckily she has been good to ride but as weve started to do a little more have found her to be tight in the back and struggles to canter on the left lead.
Decided to get the vet out and they scanned her today and found her right ovary has an enlarged follicle approx 68mm and so they have advised me to let her have Chorulon to encourage ovulation ,have taken bloods to rule anything else out and will rescan in 10 days.
Im really hoping this is the cause and she will be more comfortable and this is a one off.
Few things i want to check ,vet has advised a few days off which is fine as presume as it takes up to 40 hours may be sore ,may give her some bute.
Does the medication cause any behavioural issues and is an enlarged follicle something that tends to happen once or is it likely to be ongoing and if so what is the treatment.
Bit frustrated as moved her to a new yard in Jan and is typically going really well hacking out alone.
Is it reasonable to hopefully pick things up again once shes ovulated..
Thanks ..
