What fillings would you all choose in your toasted sandwiches? Ham+ cheese are a dead cert, but other ideas welcome.

For breakfast Costa do an egg and mushroom one with hollandaise which is amazing.

Other than that, cheese with tomato/onion, mozzarella tom and spinach, cheese and marmite, goats cheese and med veg (peppers, onion etc) it just depends on what kind f toasties, whether its the more builder's toastie or a more panini-esque affair :)

Something without cheese!
I was rather peed off when helping at a show and the only food available from the catering van was an assortment of toasted sandwiches, all had cheese in them. Hate cheese, especially melted :(

As above especially the brie options. I also like:

beef, onion and blue cheese
tomato, mozzarella and basil
Peperoni and cheese
Ham, cheese and mushroom

Banana and chocolate
Mars bar

Hmmmm getting hungry...

Any ideas of anything without cheese that would interest you?

Stencilface In reply to what type of toasties... More panini-esque but want to offer the basic ones too!

Thanks everyone this is great.

Salami and Mozzarella, something with pesto, maybe sundried tomato, and mozzarella.

Mediterrainian vegetable.

What about something like cajun chicken?

For me a toastie has to have cheese, for more of a basic toastie (other than the essential cheese and ham) cheese and onion or cheese and mushroom or full on allday breakfast...

Maybe take a selection of fillings and do a bit of a mix and match service....

Cheese & mushroom
Cheese, ham & mushroom
Bacon, cheese & mushroom
All day breakfast- bacon, sausage, egg & mushroom.
Personally though I'd just list a few with basic fillings, then have a list of extra fillings you can choose to add & let people create their own. If fillings & bread prepared it only takes a few seconds longer.

As someone that does this.. you need to target your market. If you are doing boot fairs, markets and the like then it needs to be kept simple or the wastage will be horrendous. OTOH something like county shows, country fairs etc seem to persuade people to be more adventurous.

Wastage is your number one enemy!!

Im not a burger fan so always make for the toastie van if there is one, although it can be a bit hit and miss with how good they are. Im a bit boring and like plan old cheese and tomato however the amount of times ive had a toastie that isnt properly toasted is amazing!
There is nothing worse than a toastie that is more like warm bread with warm but not melted cheese, yuk.
A plea to all toastie vans please toast them properly, dont just stick them in a toaster, make me wait for ages for something that i could have got warmer by sitting on it myself, thank you :D

Roasted vegetable
Steak & onion
Cheese & bacon
Turkey & cranberry (it's not just for Christmas!)
Pork, stuffing & apple sauce
Chicken & stuffing
