Aren't we just!! I couldn't have done any of it without my Mum either!! The day B waxed up she drove all the way up from Cornwall (bearing in mind I'm now on the Herts/Essex border!!) and whilst I was at work she sat in the caravan and literally watched B all day for me, for over two weeks!! My Mum ROCKS!!

Well done with the birth, sounds like you had a tough time along with B, and thanks for coming back, looking forward to many more pics and seeing her grow up!

So is there a chance that this condition could happen again if you put her back in foal - ie is she more disposed to it??

Matilda's legs just go on for ever, and what a cracking mare B is. Lovely mover. You must be so proud - once again!

Thank you, I think B is just beautiful, but there are those that simply do not agree - I suppose they can't help needing glasses.....

TBH placentitis can happen to any mare, at any time - as far as I am aware anyway. It can be contracted either through the blood or through the cervix. Two days before B foaled the vet (finally got hold of one) examined her cervix and it was closed tight and there was no discharge. The vet told me that my diagnosis was highly unlikely and that keeping her on AB's was my choice.... So I think that it was maybe in B's blood, which I think can increase the chances of placentitis in the future. So no, I won't breeding from her again. Which is a shame, but once weaned she will come back into work and if either H or M (or both

) go on to do marvellous things, I may do ET with her - or sell her eggs, now there IS an idea...... Can you do that? LMAO

Thank you hun!! But believe me, the pm DID work, but I didn't dare reply, as over the period of the evening I received about 16 copies of the same message off you and then just for good measure, on the following morning.... This system is mental atm!

Welcome back, and what a lovely foal! A fantastically happy outcome from what could have been a tragedy, and all down to your skill and knowledge of your horse - I just hope that (a) we never have to face such a dramatic situation or that (b) if we do we by that time have gained your level of skill and calmness. Congratualtions!

[/ QUOTE ]

Golly thank you! But believe me calmness didn't come into it really, not a lot I could have done about it ATT. My Mum told me off for not being emotional enough when she was born and breathing OK. Apparently I was being very officious and mechanical. I was just going through the motions and overcome with relief, so kept busy, defrosting colostrum, making a bran mash, cleaning the bedding, getting a thermatex for B as she was shaking etc.... I didn't have time to be 'emotional' right then, but I did later on, on my own

I'm a softee really.

Thank you C! I can't tell you how disappointed I am at not using Vision! I was so looking forward to what this mating might achieve - had a name and everything - Night Vision, guess I jinxed it from the start!

[ QUOTE ]
Well done SN and B!! The foaling sounded terrifying. What are your plans for B this year?
smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

She'll not be a broodmare after this! She's only 11 so will come back into work and get thoroughly spoilt!

Thank you to EVERYONE for all their support - you know what I mean! Sorry I've not replied to everyone individually, but the forum seems very slow tonight?
