Max the scared horse goes global

I don’t find it funny, I’m with the many who think that there’s something wrong with his eyesight.

My spooky horses can spot something off kilter like an errant sheep a mile away, he only spots them when he’s right up close up to them.
She seems like a very responsible, kind person. I’d like to think she’d have checked, given her life is potentially at stake.

I had a day like that today, Erin was staring intently at a stream on the roadside going “oh my god… the water is MOVING!?!? I’LL PROTECT YOU HUMAN! LET US TURN AND GO HOME AT TOP WALK SPEED!”

We were just out of the gate at that point so I turned around and went the other direction, after asking her to take a few sensible steps forwards. Apparently, the stream on the other side of the road isn’t threatening 🤦‍♀️

But then we walked past the paddock where Saus was peacefully eating, and Erin had a moment of “NO, WE MUST STAY WITH SAUS! SHE (an arthritic, elderly, and very unthreatening pony) WILL PROTECT US!” 😂

At that point I just sighed, got off, and lead her around the entire hacking route, which Erin decided was an acceptable compromise. She did peer at some washing lines, and then proceeded to hide behind me, as though a stick-figure-esque human was enough to hide 450kg of hairy pony 🤦‍♀️

The main thing is, we both got home alive and well!

Episode 2 of hairy cob’s winter road adventures coming tomorrow 🤣

I love that! Just watched it again -thank you for sharing . Mine was like that as a youngster - absolute drama and it has taken him a lot of years to figure that I’m quite trustworthy and won’t ask him to do anything that might put him in mortal danger!

You do realise it's more than one video spliced together ?
Yes, that’s quite obvious, thank you, eg from the tack changes 🤷‍♀️.

I stand by what I said, I think he has a problem with his vision. He doesn’t seem to spot the monsters til very late on.

I wouldn’t ride a horse who spooks like that in traffic, either, so I remain utterly uncharmed by the videos.

Mine can be like that, usually on the way out, not going home.

The reference to rabbits echoes this video

I was about to post this one. Never gets old!!

Video by OP was very good! Mine can't be like that (yesterday spooked at a stick...and scared the guy walking past us 😂)

To be fair, I didn't see him do anything that would make me he'd be necessarily be dangerous in traffic.

Mines solid in traffic (I've hacked him over, under and next to motorways) but if he's going to spook he will usually spook at stuff he's close up or level with it and often at things you'd assume aren't spook worthy. His eyesight is fine (regularly checked) but he's quite a bold chap so will generally decide last perhaps it was more jump worthy than he first thought it was - he's been known to spook after strutting up to something to investigate & boldly touch it 🙈

He can spook at stuff from a distance but his general go to is wait until the last minute. If he's spooking at a distance then generally it's a solid 'no, ta'.

This morning we had no issues with the lorry on a quiet lane or the dog that came running up to us from a field but we did spook fairly last minute at a bucket that isn't usually outside a local farm (he was nosey-ing into another garden so didn't spot it at first) and had a good snort at a suspicious looking log 🙈 I did tell him his silly horse heart was going to be just fine 🤣

I saw this video on FB, as I follow Ozzyman since the rabbit one, as above.

I too don't see anything dangerous in this horse. He mainly does a 'push up donkey' move pretty much on the spot. I don't see him spinning and buggering off on the road. He mainly stops, bends his knees and shuffles his feet.

My H can be a bot like this in winter, when clipped and under worked. It makes me jump when he does it but then he's back walking before I have time to react. I don't think his eyesight appreciably changes between winter and summer though 🤣

I did find this video funny. The voice over, the horse doing push up toy moves and the lovely rider allowing him time to process and not stressing him out.

Crikey, if this horse was not allowed on the roads for perceived mis-behaviour, we may as well ride pedal bikes.

I've ridden several horses that do this when hacking- worked in a 60 horse yard. It's not unusual to do this last minute jumping at all.

I call this the ACME Co. Spook as it is straight out of bugs bunny 😂 push up donkey is perfect!

I don't think I love the Max videos tbh, I know its only the "funny" spooking clips that we get to see but I just think my nerves would be absolutely shot if he was mine 😂 I'm an awful coward tho!

Agreed. Rode horses like that all my youth, it was fun, now it's anxiety inducing. I want a fun relaxed ride not a heart attack at every leaf.

Mine spooks like this, sometimes with a strike out towards the scary thing too, imo it’s probably the “safest” way to spook on roads because they don’t spin/move out/run off/change direction, just…stop and drop a few inches.

It jars the hell out of my back though!
