My sisters 5 1/2 year old rottie :D

He is a total darling but is going to have an operation in two weeks to repair his knee. He's damaged it and it won't heal so the poor boy will be fixed and all conned up :p

Today we sorted the paddling pool out and he was desperate to play with the water

Gorgeous looking lad, was the paddling pool purely for his use or did he evict some poor child.:D
Re his weight, he does look quite chunky but for a rottie 110 lbs doesn't sound too big. I am sure the vet will be monitoring his weight prior to the op, hope it goes well.

Personally whatever my vet said, if I saw that big bulge of belly in the first pic, I'd be inclined to make him lose weight anyway! That said he's a beautiful boy and best of luck with him, he looks a real character.

He is currently on a diet as he cannot be worked and I'm quite put off actually. No I don't want people to sugar-coat things but this wasn't meant to be a discussion on his weight :(

Don't be put off, the comments have been mostly saying how lovely he is!
My fella is 90lbs almost and he is skinny for a shep so it sounds right and he's obviously going to lose tone if he has joint problems and needs to be rested.

He has a lovely coat and a bright eye and looks like a very happy dog. Keep posting!

ETA - and at least he isn't a slopey-backed cripple like mine :p

Thank you CC I guess I just didn't expect I'd have to put a disclaimer on everything :o

He has always been on the chubby side! And I was surprised when the vet said he was a good weight, I do agree he could do with losing lbs but as you said it's difficult with his leg at the moment :)

Ditto CC, please don't be put off. I had a GSD bitch who was around 85 lbs, she always looked heavy yet you could feel her ribs. My only concern would be before any sort of joint surgery the lighter a dog is the better, but your sister and the vet are obviously on the case, so as I said in my earlier post, hope it goes well and he is soon able to be fully active.

Thank you MM :D Vet did say a few pounds off will help in the long run but as far as I know he has been lame for a while now on and off, poor boy. He is sore to the touch but still hoons about like a nutter

Please dont take the weight thing the wrong way, but in this breed, I have a (rotti myself) it's imperitive to keep an eye on their weight, he is very much over weight which wont help the knee issues, they do eat as much as their big gobs can swallow:D but you have to be pretty strict with them, my girl is not allowed over the 40kg mark much to her disgust:D he looks like a nice character.

Hes fab. Seem's you cant put pics on these days without someone criticising them in one way or another.
Hope all goes well with the op x

I certaibly dont think people are critising in a nasty weigh, more out of concern for his health, im fat as hell, I wish someone would control my food:rolleyes:

Since he likes water, is there somewhere you could take him swimming? Maybe your vet could refer you to a hydrotherapy place - good exercise and non-weightbearing :)

Hope everything goes well!

Wish someone would control my food too :p

I promise you he is on tiny portions much to his disgust and has lost weight since I was last home :D I was just looking at hydrotherapy and might suggest it to my sister if there is a local place :)

Never mind paying for it:eek:, get to the local river and get some stones hoyed in and make him swim for free:D:D

In the summer mine swims about 3 hours a week:D

I was thinking that! But our local sea is a bit minging and last time he refused to go in :p I might have to go in with him

Caylas is what a rotti should look like...sorry but your dog is on the fatter side.

Anyway, hope the op goes great, he looks like a lovely boy! xxxx

Hey, no ones trying to upset you or make you feel bad, its just sometimes as an owner, seeing a dog every day it can be hard to see when they are too light/heavy etc. People only comment because they care for your dog, which is only a good thing :D he is lovely - I'm a real rottweiler fan x

Anyone got a horse pool you could use? That's where we go :)

Nope :(

Thank you but the point about his weight has been repeated enough times. I have said that he hasn't bee walked for a while because of his knee :) Thank you.

I know, I'm sorry just didn't really expect it. We do know he is a bit podgy (dont let him hear us say that!) but with his knee as it is we don't want to risk further damage by exercising him too much. Once he is all healed he will be back up and running hopefully!
