This is Coco born on Friday night only getting around to getting pics up now, had to get vet out and he removed the afterbirth from the mare and she is just finished antibiotics yesterday so hopefully all ok. Foal is such a cutie i would love if she stayed dun but i am not convinced as she has lots of little grey hairs around her eyes but has the dun dorsal stripe, also her eyes are blue which ive bever seen in a dun before or a dark grey for that matter any opinions??!

Thanks everyone i'm pretty sure she'll turn grey too but trying to convince myself theres a chance she'll stay dun! She'll still be unusual looking even if she does go grey with those blue eyes!

I'd say grey too (although still stunning). Cruiseline had a gorgeous buckskin last year out of a grey mare and he is def going grey - still a handsome chappy though! Is a tough one with grey as you never know if will stay one colour or change.

What a little cutie :D Dad is lovely, but he is a BUCKSKIN not a dun and baby is also a BUCKSKIN that will turn grey as he gets older. His dorsal strip is called counter shading.

The foal we had last year that eventrider was referring to now looks like any other grey horse :( but he is very nice :)

Oops i'm not very knowledgable about colours! I have seen a foal by this stallion who is a blue eyed cream so i'm assuming she got the eyes from him. Thanks for all the nice comments, some ppl weren't so nice about her eyes but personally i like them so i don't care! My answer is it won't affect her jumping so what difference does it make!

Lovely foal and very smart dad! Who is he?

I agree with everyone else that says your foal is buckskin but will go grey. The blue eyes are quite common in foals that have the cream gene (that turns bay into buckskin and chestnut into palomino). They will darken in the next few weeks to brown.

The "blue eyed cream" is really a horse that carries two cream genes. If the base colour is bay they are called perlino, if the base colour is chestnut they are a cremello and if the base colour is black they are a smokey cream. They all look pretty similar and can be described as being blue eyed creams.

Thanks for that StolenSilver, the dad is a connemara pony he jumped over in France but is now standing in Ireland he is called Gwennic de Goariva. Oh will her eyes definitely go brown? I like the blue eyes now!

beautiful foalie! and a very handsome stallion! ;)

i would bet that the foal goes grey, as she has dark legs. ;)

i would also bet that her eyes will darken- my filly had a blueish eyes as a foal, and they are now brown. (she is buckskin tobiano, out of a buckskin mare)

good luck with her, she looks lovely. ;)

xx
