So excited :) he passed his vetting with flying colours and we picked him up an hour later! After deliberating the name for ages, decided to keep 'Finnegan' which will be 'Finn' for short- as it is on his passport, and I will be calling him 'Oberon' as his show name (Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream- King of the Fairies)- wanted this to be his normal name but my sister was having none of it so will have to do :p he is being called Fairy already though poor thing! My other mare is called Summer so seemed to fit the theme with Midsummer etc..
Also the Irish vet said that where he came from had some link to fairies, and of course with the jubilee I feel the king theme is appropriate!

Anyway he is rising 8, 15.2hh Irish gelding- he is such a sweetheart, loaded brilliantly and settled in very well. He has not been fed much so got to slowly introduce him, he is tucking in to a haynet atm but worried as he is eating his straw bed =/ so will go back later to keep an eye on him...

Here's a few pictures :) apologies for poor quality of some, they are video stills from this video

Love him to bits already :)

Anyone else have a 15.2hh who can tell me what size bridle they have? my 14.2hh has a full size as she has a big head but think he will need a cob size, going shopping tomorrow- and size for a breastplate!

And thanks my mare seems quite taken with him!

He's lovely, looks quite forward going in the video. Is he the one that was advertised as snaffle mouthed?

Yes he was ridden in a gag but I moved the reins so it was on the snaffle ring and he was no different, forward but not strong. Doesnt know at all what moving away from the leg is yet though so got some work to do!

He looks absolutely stunning an well suited to you.
However I did notice that he was pinging you out of the saddle. If this saddle was fitted to him I would suggest(once you have got to know him:)) working with a much longer frame to encourage him to lift and relax his back and develop more swing. If the saddle is not fitted, get that sorted and then work in a longer frame!:D
You look like a very exciting partnership. I look forward to updates.

Thankyou for the advice, I like as much advice as I can get :)! the saddle was not fitted at all, just one of the dealer's 'same for every horse' saddle- I have got him a wintec saddle fitted while he changes shape with a sheepskin half pad, he is skinny and a undermuscled at the moment so will surely bulk out a fair bit and certainly build up a lot more topline! So then I will look for a nicer saddle for him when he is up to weight and with a bit more muscle :) There shall be plently of updates to look forward to !

can't wait to ride him , will give him a good couple of weeks to get used to the place I think as he has been restricted of food and has not really had turnout- other horses are out 24/7 so this is going to take some weaning from the stable! and muzzle practise . Hmm now to revise for my A levels... :D

How is Finnegan getting on? x

He is doing fantasic :) Really settled in, started him on some conditioning feed and is now out all day and coming in at night, which is a change from his 1-2hour turnout he had! think he really likes it, although he is muzzled due to the sugary grass- my other mare coliced when she first went out on it.

To my jaw dropping suprise him and my little mare have made very good friends and call to each other already! she has never really been like that with another horse, never pulls faces at him or anything, she usually tries to kick the **** out of other horses that invade her personal space or ones she hasn't met before.. :p

He is very calm and has let us bath him without protesting at all, try all his new tack on - I must say I've joined the matchy-matchy brigade :p he is in red, gold and black! with brass fittings on his tack , he looks gorgeous :D Only had a very small runs up and down the field and then settled all day, I think hed let you walk inbetween his legs if you tried!

I think he is going to have a real character though, hes very smart- Turned him out for the first time yesterday without being on a leadrope, first thing he did was open two gates to investigate the next fields... luckily he's good at being caught.

Will post some pictures up soon as poss at his new home :)

Oh and he is in a full bridle and cob size breastplate after many trials and errors

x

Beautiful horse indeed......but if my instructor was there she'd be screaming at you to 'LOOK UP'! lol

I was looking down a lot because I thought he looked a bit lame on his right fore when the other woman rode him :p think he was just a bit stiff though as he'd been stood in all day, vet said he was sound so must be ok

ETA- i should say that I do look down a bit anyway, it is one of my things to work on

And I should also mention that in response to the other post above somewhere- don't be too jelous- hes a nightmare to muck out :o trashes his stable and can pee for England!
