Haven't been on here for a good while, been super busy with the horses! And as of last week, I now have 6 to look after
My younger sister had been looking for over a year, we tried ones that bucked, had terrible manners, were clearly lame.. and one that couldn't walk without wobbling
So we gave up trying as my sister has ulcerative colitis, and after 3 lots of major surgey, she had to recover ( she had a J pouch after a stoma for anyone that knows about it!) . She recovered well and was hunting just a month later on her pony, who as much as we love her, just hates anything apart from hunting and refuses to do it... stubborn moody mare!
I buy Connemara ponies from Ireland to produce, so I have a few contacts over there and ended up finding a very lovely 15.2hh reg connie gelding, 5 rising 6. Saw videos of him jumping, flatwork, xc and trotting up then we agreed to buy him! 2 days later he was here and we love him. He really is beautiful to look at, and we measured him at nearer 15.3hh.
Here he is
a couple of hours after arriving (he has a big neck but it's not quite as long as it looks here!)
So as I always do, I got on later that afternoon. He was a bit of a handful to start with but that was just nerves, he settled down well and after a bit of schooling in the field, I took him in the school. The next day I tried popping a very small jump... can you tell he's bred out of a grade a jumping pony?
He did calm it down a bit, but he has a huge jump
Gentle bit of schooling...
Plan is to BSJA him. He's a real character and liked to throw his bowls and headcollars at you, he neighs like a dinosaur (honestly it's scary!) and is the most intelligent horse I've ever met. 5 mins in to feet-picking-up training, he stood lifting them up by himself for his treat. Can't wait to see how he turns out! My sister will compete him mostly this year, then when she goes uni I'll be competing him next year. Just got to get our butts in to gear with getting him out and about, early days yet and not going to rush him, exciting !
