Haven't been on here for a good while, been super busy with the horses! And as of last week, I now have 6 to look after :o
My younger sister had been looking for over a year, we tried ones that bucked, had terrible manners, were clearly lame.. and one that couldn't walk without wobbling :( So we gave up trying as my sister has ulcerative colitis, and after 3 lots of major surgey, she had to recover ( she had a J pouch after a stoma for anyone that knows about it!) . She recovered well and was hunting just a month later on her pony, who as much as we love her, just hates anything apart from hunting and refuses to do it... stubborn moody mare!

I buy Connemara ponies from Ireland to produce, so I have a few contacts over there and ended up finding a very lovely 15.2hh reg connie gelding, 5 rising 6. Saw videos of him jumping, flatwork, xc and trotting up then we agreed to buy him! 2 days later he was here and we love him. He really is beautiful to look at, and we measured him at nearer 15.3hh.

Here he is :D a couple of hours after arriving (he has a big neck but it's not quite as long as it looks here!)

So as I always do, I got on later that afternoon. He was a bit of a handful to start with but that was just nerves, he settled down well and after a bit of schooling in the field, I took him in the school. The next day I tried popping a very small jump... can you tell he's bred out of a grade a jumping pony?

He did calm it down a bit, but he has a huge jump

Gentle bit of schooling...

Plan is to BSJA him. He's a real character and liked to throw his bowls and headcollars at you, he neighs like a dinosaur (honestly it's scary!) and is the most intelligent horse I've ever met. 5 mins in to feet-picking-up training, he stood lifting them up by himself for his treat. Can't wait to see how he turns out! My sister will compete him mostly this year, then when she goes uni I'll be competing him next year. Just got to get our butts in to gear with getting him out and about, early days yet and not going to rush him, exciting !

Ohh! Lovely boy! He looks like he's going to be super fun, please keep us updated as he progresses!

"Archie Lad" I can't recall his breeding off the top of my head, but I know there is Builder's Delight in there somewhere on the dam side. I will do ! hopefully taking him out to his first show in a week or two, depending on transport. both parents were 148 jumping ponies and he just grew too big!

Very nice! BD is an amazing stallion, very talented pony :)

If you got him measured in as 15.2 he would be a lovely intermediate whp! :)

Your horse is the spitting image of mine!! Also an overgrown Connie gelding, dapple grey, 15.2hh, 5 years old, and with an enormous jump exactly like that one :D Mine also throws headcollars everywhere, nothing will stay on the peg beside his stable haha
Good luck with him!! Connies are amazing rides when they've come on, you can tell yours is going to be.

I am very biased as I have 4 connies! My own is a very similar stamp and seems to share a lot of the same characteristics..... he loves to rootle through the grooming bag outside the neighbouring stable (he can reach it if his door is open and his chain is across) and can lob brushes a very long way. He has an enormous personality but is also the kindliest, most cheerful horse I have ever met and I can lend him to absolutely anyone to go hunting/do dressage/jump at Windsor Schools SJ/take on a sponsored ride/go showing and I know they will come back grinning from ear to ear as he is just such good fun

Oh wow haha, they sound very very similar (the poster who has the 15.2 connie, sorry I have terrible memory and forgot your name already :o )

He really is super, I jumped him today and he has so much power, I usually sit back and just wait for the landing as we are up so high ! Apparently he jumps 6ft over fillers too... so his first show will be something for the spectators ;)

I have two other connies at the moment, my lovely little buckskin 4yo, who is the most chilled out pony on earth.. she loves to jump and is super springy, but spends the rest of her time dozing. I also have a very chilled out 5yo who is just the cuddliest most adorable boy ever :) Every one I've owned is so different, but they all have the loving and very easy going attitude, (this one is just too clever for his own good!) It's strange how much the breed varies looks-wise, you can really see the different breed influences in them. I'd post photos of every one I've owned but I'd clog up the forum :o Thanks for all the lovely comments
