I’m going to get a standard mesh farm gate.

hope the picture has pasted successfully!

For horses, i was wondering which way best to hang it. Im thinking with the mesh side facing horses, or is the mesh flimsy that they could easily dent it? What way would you hang it?

instinctively, I'd want mesh on the inside but others may feel differently

I have a gate with weldmesh attached to it and that's on the inside (facing horses), I prefer it that way as there's no way for hooves to get trapped between mesh and gate but that's something we added rather than it being all fabricated together from the start.

Mesh facing the horses for me, too If horses can 'paw' at the gate, they are less likely to be able to knock it off the gate, when it is that way round. I would, however, want to be absolutely certain that the edges were not accessible to the horses - paranoid? Not much!

Have you thought of a steel clad gate - it should be less prone to damage than the mesh. I had some for many years for cattle and horses and they never had a mark on them

I wondered whether it was possible for the horses to punch the mesh out of the way and get a hoof stuck between mesh and rails....rather not risk it. It does depend i guess, on how good the welds are.
Consensus seems to be mesh side facing horses - thanks folks! ?

Found this style....which is visually designed to be hung with frame facing horses. Wonder if the weld is strong enough of the sheet to the frame?

This is for an entrance to horse loafing hard-standing area, not a barn stall gate.

im on the case due to dumped ponies on the bog having wondered down recently and got in with my horses, causing havoc and tearing my electric fencing system up - at 3am in the damn morning! There’s a stallion who’s been let loose with the bog herd and he’d be after my mare. Im going to get a camera up to i.d the ponies and get them rescued or something, as its been like this every winter for past 3yrs, and the bog ponies are getting braver....i think they smell the haylage on the wind and follow the scent!

the mesh is very strong
we have them in a small yard where I get random charity horses in that are feral sometimes, and the mesh has always held up to any kicks and bashes. it's very strong. I never worry about it moving

Agree. We’ve got a half weldmesh gate and it’s very sturdy. Still best to have the weldmesh on the side facing the horse, though.
