Has anyone heard or used this new gut supplement for their horse. It just came up on my feed on Face Book. It appears to be promoted by someone by the name of Kerry Campbell.

Didn't know they now market one for horses. I've been using the human version for years. Just checked and it is genuine but seems an odd way for this company to go

I know this thread is a few months old, but @onemoretime did you try this? Someone suggested it to me for my mare to help support her digestive system. She had ulcers last year, but has also had laminitis this year for the first time. I am a little concerned it says it contains molasses, but the website says the supplement is sugar free.

Asking more generally if anyone knows if there is any science behind this product?

Ingredients:

Purified water, Organic molasses, Bifidobacterium: B. bifidum, B.breve, B. longum. Lactobacillus: L.acidophilus, L. delbrueckii, L. casei, L. reuterii, L. plantarum, L. lactalis. Sacharomyces: S. boulardii, S. cerevisiae. Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus thermophilus.

All molasses are completely consumed by the microbes, leaving the final product sugar free.

I'll report back at a later point I'm curious how they're getting just the right amount of sugar for there not to be any there when you to feed it for a month+ while also keeping everything alive.

Yeah…. I found that a little puzzling too 🤔

Hi Nikicb no I haven't tried it. I always prefer to hear what others think of a product before I venture forth. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has.

Did anyone with a scientific bent investigate this any further? I’m a little sceptical about some of their claims, however it seems to be the only product on the UK market aimed at horses which contain the organisms I’m looking for. But probably not any safer than using a product aimed at humans 🤔

It unfortunately didn't agree with my two horses, it gave them both terrible diarrhea for three weeks then I gave up with it. They both have EMS and probably some gut dysbiosis which the Microbz seemed to aggrevate 😓

I’m not sure it’s aimed at horses particularly, just a market gap they thought they’d fill. The organisms seemed the same in all their products iirc?
There generally seems to be 2 main issues with horses and probiotics
1) the organisms in them aren’t what you’d find in high numbers in a healthy horse gut
2) they just don’t colonise well compared to what they manage in other species. Even using them for what they’ve traditionally been used for ie reducing shedding with salmonella infections the data doesn’t really show it helps.

I’m looking for Lactobacillus (plantarum and others) and bifidobacterium longum. From what I’ve read, the colonising effect in horses is transient but does have benefit in rebalancing the hind gut biome. Trouble is, Microbz has a tonne of other stuff as well, and no idea in what quantities. Or if the claim about the molasses sugar being nil in the final product is correct.

No scientific evidence to add here sorry. My horse has been on it since July with no notable improvement in her but also did not cause an issue, I don't think I'll carry on with it when I finish this bottle. Have started Pectigus Advanced (on vet recommendation for gut issues) and seen an improvement within the first 7 days. https://hestevard.com/products/pectigus-advanced
