OP - bute is a general anti-inflammatory so can be helpful if the legs have got inflamed from itching. I also use piriton regularly to try and break the cycle.
Neem oil is great (unless you have a horse who seems to be slightly allergic to it!), but I'm general regular oiling and feather maintenance is the answer. My draft is so much better if we can take his feathers off but sadly he fought sedation last time so it's a bit tricky.
There are a HUGE number of products on the market swearing they will cure mites / mallenders etc. If its mites then topical ivermectin is brilliant.
Personally I attack from all angles but still seem to be failing this year.
