I am in the process of learning how to balance minerals for my horses diets, my poor brain doesn't know what's hit it!

Can anyone help me with the following......

Are any minerals removed from hay by soaking or is it just sugars?

What are the iron levels in speedibeet? Is it true that soaking twice brings the iron levels down?

Does anyone know/ have the data sheet for Charnwood milling's linseed meal (sorry, just being a bit lazy here, I'm sure I can email them for this)

As above for brewer's yeast... what's actually in it apart from Bvits.

Thanks anyone whose brain is still working at 11pm!! :)

IMO you will only know which minerals your horse is deficient in, if you have him blood-tested. Then you will know which minerals to add to his diet.

I have been learning about that too! Aparantly blood testing and hair testing isn't very reliable. The only reliable test is a liver biopsy which is a bit extreme!

The best I can hope for is to learn how to balance minerals to my hay (which I have had analysed). My horses graze the same land that the hay comes from, so I can at least be reasonably confident about what they are getting.

Anything that's water soluble will be reduced by soaking but the only way to tell how much is lost is by testing a soaked sample.

I think the linseed data is on the hardwood website?

Kwikbeet is lower in iron than speedibeet :) I have a full analysis for both that and micronised linseed on a spreadsheet. If you pm me your email address I'll send it to you. It has loads of other feeds on it too and diet plans for a few horses so you can use it to play around with different diets etc :D

Brownmare, you are a star! I will pm you now.

MJC, I have just had two batches of hay fully analysed with Dengie and paid the full price, wish I had waited a couple of weeks... doh!
