And what a little star he was :D
got up at 5.30am ready for our 8.30 stressage :o I was quite worried as coblet loves 'cobbing off' across open fields, and this was in a snaffle  However, despite being a little strong and very, very leaning (help?) he was super good, didnt put a foot wrong and completed our strassage with a score of 42.7 with was in the middle of the results really :)

show jumping he was super, super excited and warming up he was bouncing around on the spot squealing, then jumping and doing a squeal then a head throw about after :o However he put his big boy shoes on in the ring and jumped everything, just rolled one off!

Cross country was the biggest challenge, he's never been good in open fields and gets unsure if he goes somewhere he doesn't know (never used to even hack out in company, working on going out alone) and I knew it would be a big ask for him as it was across about 5 different, very open fields! I think we managed to rock up about 120 penalties from run outs :o however this was expected, but not the ones i thought he would run out of ;) he jumped a very wide corner very willingly and a skinny also :) I'm just over the moon he did it and we got around and over all the jumps eventually!

Now i'm contemplating weather to do another ODE in 2 weeks time, I just need to get my nerves back together and send the entry form off :o

Anyway... pics! :D

Thank you :) I've decided to do the one in a couple of weeks :D

Can anyone help with his leaning in dressage? He's in a French link full cheek snaffle and he either points his nose or leans horrendously and goes completely ridgid through his neck. I would ideally like to keep him in a full cheek

Thanks everyone, entry form is being sent tomorrow

Ridingondreams- thanks! Went very ott and have blue and black saddle bad, browband, boots, body protector and hat silk :o
Not bad seeing as he's only ever done about 3 xc events and this was his first ode ;) spoilt!

Have you got keepers on the full cheeks? Can't tell from the video!! If not put some on, changes the action of the bit and gives it some leverage action. Also makes the action of the bit very direct.

Thanks, no I don't. I have someone lending me their loose ring snaffle to try, if that doesn't work ill try the keepers, thanks :)

why do you want to keep him in a full cheek? Surely there's no point if he doesn't go well in it? Play around with lots of bits and put him in whatever suits best. After playing around with my horse's bitting recently (7yo but green and still learning fairly basic flat schooling), I've discovered that despite my insistence that "all horses go well" in the bit I had him in, he hates it. Switched him to a Neue Schule Verbindend borrowed from a friend and bingo, nice soft horse who doesn't lean, is mouthing the bit, carrying himself and not leaning.

Ideally for the turning haha, I'm not that bothered if he doesn't end up in one, i'm trying a french link loose ring next :)
