Eeeep, I'm picking up my new puppy on Monday, I am so excited but equally panicked about the whole thing!!

It's our first puppy in 18 years and my first puppy as an adult that I have chosen the breed, sex and breeder of. I am so worried that I have got it wrong, that I will let the puppy down, that it will all go wrong and that she will be too much for me - Not helped by the fact everyone (bar 1 person) that I have mentioned the breed to have told me how crazy and very hard work they are! (Cocker Spaniel!)

I have been looking for nearly 6 months but did't think I would be so panicked about actually doing the deed, eeeep! Someone tell me this is normal please!?

Any tips or advice on helping her settle in? We have another dog in the house so hopefully that will make things a bit easier but she is Kennel born and raised so being inside is obviously going to be a shock to the system!

You'll be ok. Cocker spaniels aren't as bad as springers in my opinion but will still be lively. Good luck!

You'll be fine! We've had 5 now & they're super dogs. My two are currently crashed out at my feet. Ime, spaniels have two settings: zoom and zonk! There's plenty of the latter as well as the former. Just be clear about boundaries from the off. Pictures when she arrives please!

Working or show type?

I confess I crept down the stairs praying my first two would still be alive the first morning!

Just read up and remember about not over exercising. Choose a good food-see the sticky-and love and adore your puppy!

Cockers aren't nutty at all IME, at least not in comparison to many other breeds. Like any dog, they need exercise and stimulation, but you know that already. Our little cocker is so trainable that for the first time in our lives we have a very well-trained dog, bar one or two issues. Good luck with your puppy, try not to stress too much, you will remember more than you think. And remember, PICTURES!!

That's why I went for a cocker AC, I wanted an active, trainable dog! No one has been very encouraging so far though lol!

ooh how exciting! We have a cockapoo, 18 months old now, and she is just wonderful. her Mum was a cocker, dear little soul. I do have a friend with a cocker (named Jarvis, duh!) who is fond of quoting an apocryphal saying that 'labradors come into the world half trained, and cocker spaniels leave the world half trained'. I think that may be accurate but they are worth it! :)

We have a lab too Tob, he's a bit of a cool dude :biggrin3:
