A friend and I were having a bit of a laugh about this the other day.

Once upon a time, mixed breed dogs, especially those crossed with more than one other breed were mongrels and not really the favoured pooch of the 'posh' lot....but has anyone noticed that cross breeds such as 'Labradoodles', 'Cookerpoos' etc are now quite fashionable....and cost a fortune!!!! :)

I don't mean this in any offensive way, so please do not think I am being mean....my dog was from a rescue place, so I'm no dog snob! lol - I just thought it was quite interesting how opinions change!

SO, that got me thinking, maybe we could come up with some names for cross-bred horses? Maybe they'll increase in value to more than the 'pure-breeds'? :)

I'll go first...I'd quite like a
Welmara (welsh x connie) or a Clevebred/Thoroughbay (Cleveland Bay x TB - couldn't decided which mane I liked best!! lol)

Anymore good ones? - just for a bit of fun! :)

um, Frielander? Freisan x gelderlander. could be sponsored by Landrover.
Hackney x orlov trotter - HackedOv
mustang x knabstrubber - MustKnab

Trouble is this happened years ago with horse, the ISH is basically a poshed up mongrel as are many of the sport horses and warmbloods.

But aren't the popular horse breeds already the mongrels
TB = English riding horse x Arab. Why its called a thoroughbred I'll never understand
WB = mix of various hot and cold blood horses.

X bred horses have never suffered the stigma that X bred dogs do. Op's point is that we could market some new equine designer x's and introduce the latest 'must have'.

dont the americans already have the Pintaloosa (appaloosa markings over the top of paint markings) and Pintabians (appaloosa x Arab)

My gelding is a Pintanotaclue

I have a pony who came off Bodmin Moor. Apparently his dam was half Exmoor? He has an Arab-type head but with the Exmoor markings round his eyes, stands nearly 14 hands (big for a moorland pony) and has dainty little tufts of feather on his legs. People used to ask me what breed he is and then look somewhat scornful when I told them, so he is now a NEW breed...ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce the beautiful and versatile CORNISH BOG-TROTTER. No-one so far has batted an eyelid at this - they look very impressed and say how gorgeous he is!

Already got one its called a MULE :D

Quarter Horse x TB are officially called Appendix!

Arab x QH = Quarab

Morgans x QH = Morab

So, would Standardred x Arab = Stab ?

QH x QH really should = Half Horse

well mine is a coloured welsh D x gypsy vanner so I like welsh vanner!
the gypsy vanner from next door broke into the mares field !
that was an intersting sight when the pure bred welsh D mare that had been put to a pure bred welsh D stallion had a skewbald foal!!!!! :D
