It looks like he has leukaemia

His platelet count is so low it is not registering which is the reason that his nose won't stop bleeding. The other very worrying thing is that his white blood cell count is just below normal for a healthy horse. With his cold/abcess/bladder infection, it should be through the roof so his immune system is obviously not fighting it.

The bloods have been sent off to an external lab for a second opinion - I want to double check that the diagnosis is correct.

There is still a chance that he will get over these infections but his longterm prospects are not good. The vet wants to give him a chance to respond to the antibiotics but, unless we see a significant improvement by the weekend, chances are he will not recover.

I have some very difficult decisions to make. Thank you all for all your support.

Oh Gosh! How upsetting.

Wishing you all the vibes in the world for Monty and hugs for you to get through the next week.

Hoping for a miracle xx

So sorry to hear the results are not good. Keeping everything crossed for Monty to respond to the antibiotics. Try and stay positive (difficult I know). Big hugs to you both x

You have my sympathies - and I suspect you had been preparing yourself for bad news. I must say my first thoughts were some sort of renal failure. But this diagnosis makes sense.

Oh No!! Have been reading your posts over the last few days! Can't even imagine how tough it must be... So Sad, fingers crossed he keeps fighting.

Sending you and him lots of positive vibes...

.

Lost my pony to lymphoma but it gave me some comfort that the decision I made was the only decision to make.

I'm so very sorry!

Feel very proud that you have been able to make his life what it is now and give him a loving and comfortable home for life how ever much longer that may be for. I'm sure whatever you do will be in his very best interests.

Sorry to hear that but at least now you know what it is and he can recive the right treatment!!
Fingers and toes crossed for a full recovery!

((((((HUGS))))
