Thanks for all the support you've all given me. It's fairly inconclusive I'm afraid

The vet was with us for hours. They put a scope up his nose and we have ruled out guttural pouch etc as it seems the bleeding is actually coming from his nose on both sides and not higher up which is what was more likely.

He then had a look in his bladder. It is incredibly inflammed but, again the bleeding seems to becoming from the bladder/urinary tract so is seemingly unconnected to the nose bleeding. He also has an unrelated abcess in his foot. The vet is worried and a bit stumped.

There are now a few options:

1) a blood or autoimmune disorder
2) organ failure
3) kidney disease

These should show up on the blood tests. I am just waiting for a call from the vet with the results.

If the blood tests are inconclusive there is a small chance he is just mega run-down and the problems are unconnected. In which case we are going to hit him with the strongest antibiotics available. If this doesn't work there is little they can do but monitor him.

It all feels very frustrating since we still don't know what's up with him but while he is still comfortable I don't have to make any decisions.

For those who thought the vet should have come last night, they could not bring the diagnostic equipment last night so they wouldn't have been able to do anything. He was bright and eating and drinking last night so they advised to wait until today as he was already on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I understand your opinion since I was on the phone to the vet for an hour last night but we pay them to advise us in such situations and I followed their advice.

I am going to have a bath to warm up and then head back up to see him.

Thanks so much for all the kind words and support

poor monty and poor you. I know there is nothing worse than not knowing what is wrong. I'm glad he still seems ok in himself despite everything else.
I have everything crossed the blood tests give you an answer so you can start to help make him better.
Still sending ((((((((vibes)))))))) to monty and big (((((((((hugs)))))))) to you.

Hi, not really up to form with the whole story, but thought i'd share an experience with you.
I was asked to take a horse to the vet as it was pouring blood from his sheath, vet wasn't worried as it happened but owner insisted it went in. Was VERY surprised at the amounts and colour when I collected the horse, the box floor was swimming in bright red blood by the time we arrived 35 mins later. Booked horse in whilst he was still leaking everywhere, vets still not over concerned.
To cut a long story short we were there for over 3 hours, had kidney scans, all sorts of tests but with no real cause, although one vet said he thought horse would need a kidney removed....
Two days later it was confirmed (as I suggested at the time, cue smug expression from me!!) it was an infection, horse was soon home and recovered well.
Guess what i'm saying is the vet was right to not panic and dash over, seriously, if you can lose as much blood as the one I had on board and they don't worry its a lesson to us all!
And I have my fingers crossed that it is something yukky but quickly solved and Monty picks up soon.

My lesson that day was don't help people out you don't know. I had five hours wasted, whilst supporting, aiding the vet, transporting and returning the owner to her doorstep after leaving the horse at the vets, the owner was useless and couldn't even load her horse. Oh, and had to clear all the mess up her horse had left on board.
She covered the fuel (just) and then rang my yard owner that evening with bucket loads of bullsh!t which YO decided to believe. I still have no idea of her motives to create such trouble for someone who helped her out on a bank holiday with a sick horse, but she did. Result was a rapid exodus from the yard, an email sent to YO explaining all conversations with said nutter, and an apology from YO the following day, who was also a friend at the time. But at least I got a new experience for my wasted day!

A better report than I thought I might read, but still horrible for you and your boy. LOts of mega vibes coming over that they find out what wrong quickly and get him on the mend.
