40 horses were rescued from a farm in Wrexham (North Wales) last week. The papers reported that the seizure under the Animal Welfare Act involved 20 people from the Public Protection Dept, the RSPCA, the ILPH, the Police, Veterinary Surgeons and five horsebox ambulances to remove 40 equines. I do actually know the person responsible and can confirm that her horses have always been kept underfed and uncared for for many many many years. All I can say is thank goodness for the new Act as I have seen the suffering caused by human greed and obsession to keep and to breed many more horses than could ever possibly be coped with. It makes me feel quite sad that a horse I once owned did indeed end up there but that now maybe she will find a better life thanks to the ILPH, RSPCA, Vets and others involved in the rescue. Sadly though, it is quite likely that this person may have other equines still 'hidden' and I hope that follow up visits ensure that no more equines are acquired and neglected by this person.
