40 horses were rescued from a farm in Wrexham (North Wales) last week. The papers reported that the seizure under the Animal Welfare Act involved 20 people from the Public Protection Dept, the RSPCA, the ILPH, the Police, Veterinary Surgeons and five horsebox ambulances to remove 40 equines. I do actually know the person responsible and can confirm that her horses have always been kept underfed and uncared for for many many many years. All I can say is thank goodness for the new Act as I have seen the suffering caused by human greed and obsession to keep and to breed many more horses than could ever possibly be coped with. It makes me feel quite sad that a horse I once owned did indeed end up there but that now maybe she will find a better life thanks to the ILPH, RSPCA, Vets and others involved in the rescue. Sadly though, it is quite likely that this person may have other equines still 'hidden' and I hope that follow up visits ensure that no more equines are acquired and neglected by this person.

The new law is great, but unfortunately we will never be rid The vile creatures in society that can do this to animals,ALL we can do as the amersham case has done is make the non horse public aware of exactly what is going on in this country with regards to equines!!And....as discusting as the amersham case is the bizarre thing is it has opened a HELL of alot of eyes, and if you have non equine people backing you as we have now we can only be onto a winner!!Cant we???

I live fairly near and this has been reported in the papers since last summer. They did visit and remove some dogs and prosecuted her for not having passports for 2 ponies but the welfare issue fell down apparently from lack of evidence provided by the prosecution!!!! The RSPCA and the council had been visiting but why did it take so long to do anything. They seized some ponies from there before Christmas but left the others behind. The local paper reported that they were moved by the RSPCA to another field on the property and one eventually died a couple of weeks ago. It is really sad, like you I have been aware of this lady for a number of years. I did google the address and loads of newspaper reports came up but I don't think we can show the link on here can we?

This is shocking, and it hasnt been highlighted like the Amersham case, what a wasted opertunity to keep the welfareissue in the public eye.
could someone pm me with details please?

Well said!!!The more issues that can be made aware the better!!!!BUT....yet again it sounds like a case of people knowing and not doing!!!!
We need to do what america does, they seem to have their priorities right when it comes to animal welfare, unfortunately in this country the government dont give a crap!!!!
We cant hunt foxes but we can starve our pets????Anyone see the logic coz i sure as hell dont!!!

Talked to the ILPH about two ponies on our yard which are neglected, but because we wont let them starve or go with out water there is nothing the ILPH can do even though there are loads of people who will testify if we dont feed and water them they would be left to starve for days on end. are rarely mucked out and get no exercise at all. Its so sad animals have to suffer before anything can be done. As a yard we are going to try to buy them and treat them right but we think she will move them if she can find somewhere no one will keep an eye on her. Shes mental.

things soooo obviously havnt improved have they????)

there was a link posted in the Op. E. section to a youtube of the new ILPH director and he mentioned in that clip about removing 10 horses from 50 near Blackpool and another 50 in Scotland

There should be a limit on the number of horses or dogs or cats or whatever that people can reasonably own to try and stop this
