I had an amazing moment with my horse this evening. I've just moved yards 3 days ago, and decided to go along with someone for a hack in The New Forest - but I wanted to just lead him in hand (in a bridle) since he is young, inexperienced, spooky and it would be his first time out in his new area and also first time out with a hot-to-trot mare
He had been really good, just very looky, and doing his best snorting stallion impression...when at one point when we were passing through a narrow gap between two gorse bushes, he rushed ahead, and I lost my balance, landed on gorse and lost hold of the reins. He bolted...and didn't stop to look back....I thought "bugger, he doesn't know where he is, and this is a huge area, he could get completely lost, or worse still run into a road".
He was long gone...I carried on looking for him, going in the general direction I saw him go...then spotted him - he had stopped maybe a 1/4 mile away in the distance - and was looking back - I called to him - and to my astonishment, he immediately started to trot, then canter towards me - he cantered all the way back to me, and stopped pretty well right by me. Wow!
It was an amazing moment! I don't think I will ever forget that! I'm so pleased we have such a bond that he came straight back when I called
Very pleased with my boy this evening, and it's made me see how important I am to him as well...
Anyone else have any amazing horse moments?
