i cannot believe what my friend told me she saw today when she went down the yard!!!!

a woman down the yard (the old, essentric 'dont tell me what i already know' kind) having recently purchased a 20k dressage horse is now proceeding to ruin it!

firstly, she refused to quarrantine the horse (i might like to mention she is the yard owner) when it arrived from germany. unfortunatly it harboured a v nasty skin condition/virrus which my horse subsequently caught (£600 vet bill later and a very sick pony who almost died, once recovered was moved!)

her horse was never vetted, which astounds me and isnt insured. so when something went wrong with its foreleg she refused to pay for treatment and continued to ride an obviously lame horse.

my friend has now informed me that the horse, progressively getting lamer/tripping/fallen over when ridden a few times is now on bute and a trainer at the yard was ordered to 'whip him through it' because she wants it out competing next weekend!!!!!!

i am appauled!!!

this comes after hearing another now ex friend mare is on course to be PTS at age 3. She was housed in a totally unsuitable environment, penned up and over fed. to cut a long story short, she got her head caught between two metal posts and was left like this until found the next morning. she suffered a fractures cheak, broken teeth, and is very unco-ordinated in her gait.

and what did the owner do?? nothing after the first vet visit and she ushered the vet off the yard stating the horse wil be fine and she cant afford the vet bils (again uninsured).

that was 9 days ago.....currently the horse keeps colapsing, holding her head at a wierd angle, unable to eat properly, lost tons of weight, unco-ordinated and has a haemotoma the size of a cricket ball on her poll. she is very headshy and spooks very badly, where as before she was calm as. this was a 15k foal, now worth nothing. (this is what i have been informed, i phoned the owner up, offering help but was hung up on :O). What worries me the most is the constant drip of fluid from the nose (wasnt there before the accident) and the very frequent nosebleeds the horse gets.....brain trauma?

i cannot believe the stupidity of people nowadays, makes me so angry!!!!!

Phone WHW. That is a disgrace. She can afford 20k for a horse (sounds like bullshit) but not the vets bills? Also, you should all vote withyour feet and move out. I couldnt be near someone like that and watch horses suffer. The woman needs telling somehow. People like that make my blood boil.

OMG!!!! SHOCKING to say the least! surely if this horse needs medical attention (which to me it sounds like it needs emergency vet help) then this woman needs reporting! some people should not be allowed animals Grrrrrr

oh i moved out after the first incidence! i pay a lot of money for my horse and her upkeep! she almost died because of that womans stupidity! the trainer has also walked, appauled at the front of this silly old woman!

did i get this right that this is the yard you are on?! honestly i'd be moving and reporting them...its one thing criticising people's riding and stuff but this is downright cruelty if what you say is true and the rspca or whoever should be able to see that....is yard bhs reg?

that is totally shocking behaviour on both counts. I would perhaps get in touch with WHW and ask them to go and see these horses explaining what you have been told.If there is a welfare issue with either horse and the owner cannot prove that both are getting the treatment they need they can intervene and insist on a vet being called there and then or remove the horses.

I agree phone the WHW or RSPCA. I don't know anyone who would take that chances, or would ignore their horses suffering. The words are don't buy them if you can't afford them, these are animals they get hurt, it wouldn't matter if it was a £500 pony. its sick.

the first incident is a yard i USED to be on, the last is a woman i know. i know of 5 people who have reported it, waiting to hear back from them about the RSPCA.

i am thinking of offering the woman money to buy the horse and look after it myself. sounds like a bullet job to me though....her jaw, from what i have heard, and her cheaks are pretty much [****]. im conserned about her neck.

where she struggled to free herself, she tore the flesh from her cheeks and left a hole in her gutteral pouch!

the first vet patched up but wanted the woman to take the horse to a larger vet practice for xrays/scans of face and neck.

i am appauled people spend so much money on very well bred horses (prince thatch in the first instance and Brightling W (cant spell :P) in the second) and yet wont insure or look after their horses! im outraged!

I completely agree with everyone who says that this woman needs reporting !! poor poor horse

I this is true I am shocked what is wrong with people... why??
do they just see the horse as an object and not a living, feeling creature. People like this suposing horse business owner well I wouldnt want them round my horses she obviously knows nothing about horses and is totaly irisponsable i would say thebest thing for that sort of person would be to corner them with a baseball bat and attempt to knock some sense in to them

unfortunatly it is true

just been on the phone to the friend who told me, apparently she is ringing every yard near her to move to horse as she blames the YO even when she turned down their help! no one will touch her as she has a reputation.

poor horsey is in the middle of all this!

Please report it asap, that poor horse sounds as if it has intracranial trauma, as a neorologiacal nurse (human) from that description it is in a very bad way.

Forget RSPCA and WHW I'd contact the police if what you're saying is accurate Black Horse. It's not only cruel to the animals and hurtful to us to hear, but against the law. Please, please, please let us know progress.

If you pm me with specifics I have a couple of contacts who might be able to help.

always broke - im worried about pressure on the cranium and also possible spinal cord compression and/or vertebral fracture...

lliedi the organisations have already been contacted....i dont think the police would get involved.

Have you witnessed this yourself, or is it just what you have been told? I'm sure your friend is being honest though and hope the authorities can help the poor horses.

Having reported two ponies in serious state of neglect to the RSPCA for them to tell me they couldn't do anything as someone else had come forward to say they owned the ponies as well as the owner who had them (I know it's confusing but it is a way of people getting out of being prosecuted apparently according to the RSPCA they cannot act if they don't know who to prosecute!!)

Both those ponies died long and lingering deaths and the RSPCA did NOTHING!!

Sadly a couple of years later I witnessed a mare and foal in trouble, the mare had collapsed. Again I rang the RSPCA but the Guildford branch said it was not their area (it was on the border of Sussex/Surrey) so I rang HQ in Sussex to be told they had no inspectors free to go out. I must add that these animals were approx 7 miles from the HQ.

Eventually after getting so bloody angry with their attitude, I rang the ILPH and they were FANTASTIC. They immediately came out and took the animals away.

I also called the RSPCA when an Alsation dog was in my front garden having been hit by a car and I couldn't get near to it as it was very distressed and in pain and as a result was aggressive. Again, surprise surprise they had nobody free to come out. Our local council has a dog warden who is only supposed to deal with strays but when I rang her, she too came out immediately and took the dog to the vets. She was disgusted with the RSPCA (and it turned out that the dog had a fractured pelvis)

You are WASTING YOUR TIME with the RSPCA you need to call ILPH. I agree the Police will not get involved, I know as I called them too but they referred me back to the RSPCA.

im lost for words! report this women. she is cruel.

as for buying a 20k horse and its not insured! well the mind boggles.. cos i would defo get it insured for the price.
as for the other horse thats just so cruel she needs sorting out and cannot leave that poor animal to suffer.

hope all gets sorted please keep us updated .

Good god, that is terrible, cant believe there are people out there that act they way they do and have horses, surely this woman must have a screw loose or something?, 20k horse with skin disease? ...and no insurance and not vetting, whip it through the lameness? Their either very very strange or talking total bull sh*t, thank god I'm on yard with normal people thats all I can say.

Hope something comes good and works out of both horses, poor creatures.
