Mucking out time = 30 minutes (not including water and barrow empty)

Both stables were very wet and 2/3 of both beds had to be removed.

Even on that cardboard bedding i dont see how anyone could muck out either of these stables in 5 minutes or less.

You straw bed gets like Micks, I really don't know what he does in the night. It takes me 15 minutes.

Our other horse Shiney does 3 poos max, leaves them where they land, so he is really easy. I can do him a full muckout - poo and wet in 4 minutes.

Any advance on 4 minutes.. :D:D

Mine takes me at least half an hour (more if I chat!! :D ), but then again his bed is like deep litter in terms of size, but is fully mucked out each day, including turning over the banks. There are no rubber mats, the stable is about the same size as yours and is completely covered in bedding as I don't think it is good for them to have to lie on an exposed concrete floor. Plus, given that I am currently battling thrush in his feet, a deep bed means all the wet sinks to the bottom, leaving the top half dry which is better for his feet.

all of the above in about 10-15 mins including water bucket scrub and re-fill and barrow emptying. Mind you, we have a lot of boxes to do every day and so definately get the practice!

Oh, I can muck out a normal box in about 15 mins - mine is a dirty dirty horse, despite being a gelding, which is what takes the time :(

I would LOVE to know what he gets up to to leave his box in such a state every night!!!

same here! I think Chico tries his best as the poo is always around the edge but the massive wee he does right in the middle seems to end up being everywhere and he always disturbs his poop piles so you have to sift to find all the bits!

My boy doesn't take long at all. We are unable to have rubber matting due to the drainage issues it would cause. I have a very large stable and its bedded to the door with straw. He is currently in 24/7 and I was taking approx 6 barrow loads out a day!! I now put a bag of bedmax on the floor with the straw bed on top and just skip the poo's off the top. Every other day I add fresh straw and once every 2 weeks I muck out fully. The advantages for me are that as he is a big horse, the bed stays put when he rolls or lies down, there is less dust created whilst mucking out and mucking out really does take about 5 mins!! Obviously the full muck out takes longer but I can cope with that every 2 weeks. It meansI have more time to hand graze him rather than spending time mucking out!

mine take between 5 and 15 mins depending on horse, this includes putting the hay in. but mine have full shavings beds (full mats underneath) big banks nearly 2 feet high, and bases of 10/12 inches. mucked out to the floor every day.all wet taken out. clean bedding added wed/sat. i couldnt leave a horse on a weeny bed, just doesnt feel right!

My beds are very much like those ofcourseyoucan just mentioned.....full shavings beds, they even have mats underneath but they still have beds of around 10 inches deep at the base and banks of nearly 2 foot.....again takes me between 5 and 15 mins for each stable including water and haylage.

This was before;

This is 30mins and 2 wheel barrows later lol

I dont have a finished picture :( I used to put 5 bales of shavings in every week lol cost a blinkin bomb!!

Takes me 40 mins to muck out a shavings bed properly and 5 mins for straw.

What does 'mucking out properly' mean to everyone?
I confess I find it astonishing that people say they can fully muck out a deep straw bed in five minutes - when I muck mine out there is not a speck of dirt left in it, which obviously increases the time taken. I am on a massive anti-thrush campaign though...

I would class mucking out properly a shavings bed as removing every little spec of pee and poo and digging up the banks.
The straw beds at work are about the same size as OP's so taking out the whole lot only takes 5mins :D If it was a massive straw bed it would take me decades!! I hate staw beds but i unfortunatly have to work with them

Mucking out Shiney in 4 minutes is poo, haynet and wet out. His wet is always in the same place, just one patch, so I scape off the top layer of straw, get to the wet and then fill the hole in. done.

He had thrush last year, thats why I have to take all the wet out everyday. He's still easier than Mick.

When Shiney was in hospital the vets loved him. He did 1 poo every night in the same place. They said he was the cleanest horse they ever had. Trust mine to be the minger. :D

I've got an after photo

it's a pretty thick bed, like I said to do this bed from taking out 3-4 barrows, putting in frsh straw, clean and refill buckets and fill 2 big haynets takes 1.5 hours.

My bed is like the one in your pic, but right up to the door. Whole thing is turned over every day. I would love to be able to muck it out in five minutes :D

I can muck out, bed down and haylage 5 straw boxes (13ft by 12ft, deep beds, full muck out) in 13 mins.
I ahve had a lot of practise.

Really? Cripes, and I thought I was quick. That's really impressive.
OP, to be fair, your horses are in for 18 hours, mine go for 10 hours (10pm to 8am, because I do a really good skip out at 10pm) so that makes a big difference. If I leave them from 4pm to 8am they are a lot more disgusting, but the stables still only take about 8-10 mins max to do thoroughly.
I do a 'proper muck out' btw, I remove every speck of manure and wet that I can find, I'm really fussy, and the barn with the internal stables in doesn't smell at all in the summer...

I really dont believe people can fully muck out a deep straw bed in less than 10 mins!

By fully muck out I mean sift through every bit of straw and remove every speck of dirty bedding, sweep the floor of the base before putting te base back and going under the banks.... then sweeping the floor under the banks. Then creating big banks and a fresh fluffed up bed.

We get a minimum of 2 barrows from each straw bed, any less and it hasn't been done properly.

It's back breaking when there are 20+ boxes to do!

Now that looks like a proper bed! :p
I like to see nice thick beds.

That's how I have my beds (although slightly thicker) and I've got rubber matting. I skip out daily (adding straw if required) and then take out all the wet once a week and add a bale of straw.

It only takes about 5 minutes to do the daily skip out. Not sure how long the full muck out takes.

Should have said that those 5 are only in at night. Would video but not messing around much at the moment - have husband with 2 broken wrists to having to look after him as well as horses/chickens/bunnies.
I have one of the big green wheelbarrows, and 2 and 3 stables go on one of those, then bed down 2 stables from 1 barrow of clean straw.
Really don't understand what all these peeple get up to for hours.

:rolleyes:Takes me about 15 minutes to do T's stable, that's a 'full muckout' which is what he gets daily. I'm extremely fussy about their beds, Grandma is sure I have stable OCD :o He is in from 4pm until 8:30am ish, I will skip out (just manuure at around 9pm).

Our shavings beds are much quicker to do. I reckon around 8 minutes, one horse in particular is disgusting!

I shall take before an after shots tomorrow or saturday. :D

Now that sounds familiar! We used to do 40 a day between about five of us plus ride 6 lots. The more you practise and the fitter you get the quicker you can do it!

My own take me ages now though because I am fat, lazy and like a good natter :D

Agree - I can do my full straw bed in 10mins if I'm not stopping and chatting at each stage -more often than not it takes about half an hour! that includes a brew whilst the disinfectant has time to work lol

I left my filthiest mare's stable from 4pm to 9.30am, so 17.5 hours, which is much longer than I would usually leave a stable without skipping out.
before:

and less than 7 minutes later:
DSC01336.jpg

that wasn't hurrying either, just doing it at my normal pace. Took out 1 barrow full.
(Just in case anyone thought I was cheating before!)

Now just look at what you have done with these "I can muck out my stable in xxx mins" posts. I took my stop watch to the farm this morning! Forgot to use it but the fact I am now comtemplating timing my mucking out is ......... NUTS!!
Oh and I have straw on top of pellets.

As I'm new to having a stable kept horse I'm currently running at around 30 mins..although last night one of the other liveries came and gave me a 'lesson' which I'm hoping will help this afternoon!! Lol!! It's the water that takes me ages, I have to fill 2 big buckets cos he drinks loads and the nearest tap is across the yard and I can't carry a full bucket so it's lots of trips back and forth!!! I won't have an automatic water trough cos they keep leaking in the other stables so I won't risk it!!
