I hate poo picking with a vengeance. Would rather muck out 10 stables than poo pick my field.

Unfortunately I've now lost my paid child labour so will need to start poo picking again (once the ground thaws enough to allow)
 
Mucking out is much quicker and seems more productive. I'm ashamed of my fields at the moment. I haven't poo picked for weeks. Luckily they have toilet areas but even so, it looks a mess and will take a lot of work to clear.

I wish I could find some child labour :(

me too hate it with a passion I have actually given up with it at the moment as most of it is frozen solid to the ground and I am not that fussy with it in winter, but I do try to do it everyday in summer just so it's not such a chore.
 
another who would prefer to muck out. Poo picking is mega awkward at the mo - fields are sticky clay so it's either frozen ruts & poos which ping out of the wheelbarrow as it bounces along, or impossible to push the barrow through the clag.
 
Neither!! I've chosen to not stable mine this winter, loving it and the relatively stink free clothes.

Poo pick his starvation paddock in the summer, but it's tiny and the ground is dry so it's easy. We wouldn't dream of poo picking in the winter, and only poo pick large toilet areas in the summer.
 
I prefer poo picking! i take the dogs with me and a few cats always follow too, i like the exercise and it gives me an excuse to check the fence lines and the general state of things, one of my horses is disgusting in his stable , it looks like it has been carpet bombed every morning and takes ages to do
 
I used to favour poo-picking.

Now I don't. Very much don't.

It's like a low grade headache - always there!

And people walk past all the time, and I feel like a failed owner if I don't do it EVERY DAY because I just don't have the time to do it EVERY DAY.

And I am my own worst enemy as I could pay someone to do it for me. But I feel embarrassed to get her to do it, when I feel like I should just make the time to do it myself.

I think I have issues.
 
I love poo picking! I take the dogs with me for a good run round, I get to watch the local wildlife, the ponies always mooch over for a cuddle and I have no one in my ear, going "Muuuuuuuum!" Bliss!

Although, I couldn't poo pick even if I wanted to, we have a rather hefty population of crows and magpies who descend upon any poo and pick it to shreds, and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit there picking flakes of poo out the grass!
 
Ok I'm a bit odd........

At this time of year I am heading towards looking forward to stables being over and to only having to poo pick. Towards the end of the summer I am looking forward to stopping poo picking and doing stables! That's me easily bored. I do not poo pick my winter fields due to them being clay and even in this relativity dry year its like taking your life in to your hands. Nice farmer man sorts it out for me :)
 
poo picking. I only do it every 2 days in summer as the fields will be harrowed and rolled after winter when they move across to the summer one. plus I have a friend who brings her dog 3 x a week in summer and helps me with it :D

Urghhh I have the crows too. But don't have a choice re poo picking. It wasn't too bad in our old fields as we had a poo pile in the corner so there wasn't too far to go to empty a barrow. Now have to push each barrow back to the yard muck heap which seems like MILES when it's muddy :( :(
 
Love poo picking - do it twice a day. Great exercise, allows the mind to wander or switch off completely and reconnect with the land. Normally 'helped' by cats and dogs! Plus no worming as the faecal worm count came back clear :)
 
I don't mind poo picking as long as is only one barrow full, meaning it has to be done everyday. Any more than one barrow full at a time I'd rather poke my eye out with a rusty spoon.

Quite like mucking out now all stables have mats and drinkers. I spend more time sweeping the beds perfectly straight than actual mucking 😂
 
Used to poo pick four or five fields, so a lot of poo, then I would go and muck out stables at a yard. No payment I did it purely to be around horses! I must say I prefered poo picking as i meant I was outside.
 
Poo-picking unless it's very muddy as my horse only does about 3 a day in his individual paddock whilst in his stable he does about 8 and stirs them in.
 
Poo picking in the summer but it has to be done every day as having two out 24/7 it mounts up if you leave it more than a day. My field is on a hill so I wheel the barrow up to the top then fill it in the way down so only usually have one load and takes 15 mins.

Although I usually end up fussing the boys and have a little sit and chat with them if they are lying down having a snooze 😁

We have two living out in 2.5 acres, and I split them up to eat their tea as it ends up as a food stealing contest otherwise, also our gelding savours every mouthful of his tea, so it takes quite some time for him to finish then polish his bowl clean with his tongue, so while I am waiting for him I poo pick every night, in the dark using this....

Another who loathes poo picking with a vengeance especially when there are multiple horses so you can't actually clear it. Also feels like all I do in the summer and having to make allowances so you have time to poo pick. And don't get me started on if the field is rutted so half the flipping poo ends up in a hole and you have to try and get it out.
Would far rather muck out!
 
I'm lucky in that we don't have to poo pick. 13 horses on 55 acres, regularly rotated and the worst ratio we get is 6 horses on 7 acres from Nov - April. YO harrows when they move on and cross grazes with sheep.

I quite enjoy mucking out and would much rather muck all three stables my friend and I are responsible for (my horse, share horse and her kids' pony) than mix their feeds. I HATE mixing feeds!
 
Mucking Out: I don't have stables so don't muck out - that's that bullet dodged ;)

Poo picking: I harrow - when the muck isn't welded to the ground like lumps of frozen brown nuggets, currently (like for the past 3 weeks) everything has been covered in sheet ice - muck becomes useful as built in footholds. Now, we have fresh snow to cover it all up again, and no way am I faffing about trying to find fresh poo in a snow storm or minus silly C :D

My paddocks look disgusting, the same as every other paddock around here.

In Spring when the thaw comes I just get the snow plough (like everyone else) and scrape the paddocks - tada! Instant muckheap.

Then I till the paddocks and get my sand arenas back for 8 months.
