ERM i've had to put the stuff on a foals leaky tummy button and got it all over my hands which have the usual thorn pricks, scratches and cuts any horse persons hands have.
it really didn't hurt that much, it irritated more than anything else.
It will hurt on mud fever. I tried something once that contained iodine without realising it (- the pink colour should have been a giveaway). Poor horsey stamped and stamped and stamped, plus some kicking (not at me - just in discomfort).
I used it when my horse had mudfever, my mum was in hospital at the time and i reasoned if they used it to treat and clean wounds and prevent infections on people then it would be ok to use on my horse. I bought the gold label one and sprayed it on, only used it when she had a few scabs not raging mudfever but it cleared up so guessing it worked.
i bathed the mudfever in hot water and hibbiscrub and dabbed on a small amount of iodine carefully and he didn't react
the iodine is a week solution too
Has your mud rash cleared up? my horse had a really bad case of it last year & the only thing that cleared it up was Hibisrub & Muddy Marvel Descab. Trying desperately to avoid it this year!!
Are you using a barrier cream?
Can anyone give me ideas for a barrier cream, that works, lasts more than a few days & doesn't cost the earth!!??
I've tried Muddy Marvel barrier cream, sodacrem, other nappy cream, MV VM something like that, vaseline, udder cream!!
Ive been using PigOil and Baby oil once the mud is dried it just brushes off much better than constant washing....just make sure the area is nice and clean before you start using the oils
ive never tried iodine for it dont think i dare proberbly get my head kicked in with my cob he didnt like it hibiscrubing or touching really, I feed think mud to my traditional cob he has previously had mud fever rather bad about 2yrs ago to and this seems to have stopped him getting it i feed it as a preventative, when he did have it he had it bad infact he had 4 days in stable at one point to try i then tried aromese aroma heel which lifts the scabs off its self and kills the infection underneath also promotes hair growth back and acts a a barrier all in one, it was great! 2 weeks later it had cleared up and i used it to protect just as barrier,(it also smells nice) i tried all the barrier creams and powders from saddlery and what vet suggested but ive found that the think mud and aroma heel works the best for him.
