Would you say this field is too muddy for them to live out 24/7 in? I think I'm just being paranoid but thought I'd just check what others think? It's ankle deep on me and doesn't go pass their fetlocks. its quite wet in the whole field the other end isn't to bad. I'm planning on strimming the grass at the end so I can let them have access to the trees. There is some hardstanding by the gate only gravel which is a bit muddy too, where I hang a haynet. Their other hay is on rubber matter which the can stand on. Also rubber matting by trough. Thanks for reading

OK great thanks. I love your new profile picture. I'm not use too all this mud, I was a bit spoilt with the setup I use to have!
Yeah, I am not used to mud either ?
I try and fence it off and let it recover and if that is the water trough, just fill a wee bucket and put it further over the fence line ?
Thank you, had them done last October ♥️

The top part of my field gets trashed every winter. It's slightly sloping so we get all the run off from the farm fields next door. There are two field shelters so they do have somewhere to get out of it. It recovers every summer. Unfortunately all the fields are like it. There's also a spring in one of them. I did joke about bottling the water one year!

If you're worried about mud now, an unsurfaced track system in the winter is going to be fresh hell for you as it will get muddy pretty darn quick as it concentrates their footfalls over a much smaller area.

didn't think of that, that is very true. Thanks very much.

I was worried about putting mine on the long grass and getting enormous but actually she hasn’t. There must be much less nutrients in it so can eat more than the short stuff she was on. My winter field is like a bog but it’s really big so come spring when they come off it it will be trashed but recovers really well over summer.

more difficult for you with your one’s health issues but I usually just accept the mud as long as there’s dry places they can go.

P.S you have a grey. The muddiest part of the field is the only place they will roll. ?

Thanks. The long stuff always seems to be better, You can also tell the short stuff is sweeter as they go for that first!
