My pony takes 5.5" in jointed bits - do horses usually take the same size in a Mullen mouth as a jointed or should I go 1/4" smaller?

Thanks.

Might try the same size Mullen then. Maybe I should try a cheap rubber one in before I invest in the nathe!

I found the rubber ones come up a little too small I would try a stainless steel one. happy mouth ones come up very big, stainless steel come up just right and rubber too small.. can you not hire a nathe from the bit bank to see the sizing?

Yes, that's a possibility. Or if I can pick a second hand one up (I have seen a couple) then I would probably get my money back if I had to re-sell.

doubt you will find anyone willing to hire out a nathe as they do mark easily.
My mare has the same size in a KK, waterford and nathe. As the nathes are sold in cm rather than inches they don't come up quite the same size as standard bits, you have to decide between 2 sizes really - mine is a 5.5" normally and I got a 13.5cm nathe.

eta, that's about 5.3", the next size up was 14.5cm which is about 5 3/4". The smaller size is OK for mine but she's got a pretty neat mouth. If she had big lips I would have gone bigger :)

I didn't realise they were sized in cm, good tip, thank you!
