Only time I use short approach to single fence is if teaching a method of jumping new type of fence but even that finishes with an approach from distance starting with a good canter then setting up as required
Completely agree! Would rather see a good line of fences tackled as gets the horse going forward.
Bernster, on occasions I will even hunt jump (push past if others balking) so I don't have to pull up, but obs I only do this with folk I know and trust, but it does get sticky ones going
