Munstead XC - nice bit of lateral work shown! And a napping qu

I feel a plan coming together!

So do I! :D

TBH I have never understood this group XC training thing where you all jump a fence from a short run up then then move on to next one. I much prefer to either do several in a row or approach a single fence from a distance. It needs to be real if it is any use as training.
Only time I use short approach to single fence is if teaching a method of jumping new type of fence but even that finishes with an approach from distance starting with a good canter then setting up as required

Completely agree! Would rather see a good line of fences tackled as gets the horse going forward.

Bernster, on occasions I will even hunt jump (push past if others balking) so I don't have to pull up, but obs I only do this with folk I know and trust, but it does get sticky ones going :)

Well done! You looked super, he's a nice looking horse. The napping will resolve with some iron clad XC sessions I reckon. I too would have given him a good crack and gallop on, but I completely understand that it isn't always that easy to put into practice.

If he were mine I would try and start by following someone around at a quicker pace, so he (and you!) becomes confident cantering around and jumping from a canter. From experience you really only need to do that once and once their blood is up they are usually quite happy to bound around by themselves. Pity I'm halfway around the world from you, I would be more than happy to come out for encouragement and would throw some Thoroughbred speed in too :D

Haha bless you, those are very encouraging words. I have a session with TFF hopefully.

Plus PM, we had a very long hold on the xc due to a spectator getting mown down by a loose horse, so being on the ground may not be the safest place !!
I may have a solution. Just found advert from someone looking for a rider to school a youngster. Turns out it's the owner of a horse I competed a few years ago. Might have a mount to borrow.
This was the horse. Really strong bond with him but owners husband insisted on selling :(

Woohoo that's so exciting PM, how cool is that. Karma or some such thing. Serendipity? Although is the groin sniffing really necessary? ;-)

Some husbands build horseboxes, some husbands insist horses are sold, I know which type I'm aiming for ;)
Ain't many of the first type about :p Far too many of the second type or the ones who get jealous because when is spending too much time with another man (competing horses). Yep that has lost me a couple of horses.
