Bb is kinda confused about mutual grooming but hopefully get it soon!
Sorry for horribly dark photos!

Little update on bb
She got a bad cut about a month ago but it has healed wonderfully!
She’s doing well in the herd and understanding a bit more about how to act with other horses!
She’s still bottom of the herd but has settled in well
She’s so beautiful and such a calm personality I’m delighted with her

She’s a gorgeous type.
I hope you don’t mind mind me saying, this is meant really kindly as it’s hard when you see them every day….but she looks quite poor for this stage of winter. It is TOTALLY normal for youngsters to drop off after a lot of moves etc, but maybe a rug might help her keep a few calories in? Is she getting plenty of hay/haylage?

Again this is really meant kindly and I hope you take it that way 💐

Completely understand where you’re coming from
She was gaining weight then dropped it again when she got hurt
She is warm and I am feeding her extra as I agree she is not the weight I want her to be but it’s dangerous to put rugs on them in the forest
I’m working with my vet on it
It’s strange as she’s got a big belly but her neck and wither are underdeveloped.
She doesn’t have worms and I did panicky get her checked for pregnancy (all good)
I’m thinking bloods next to see if there’s an imbalance somewhere
I’m hoping she’s in a weird growth stage but it’s unlikely
Currently trying copper supplement to see improvement as her coat isn’t the best either.
I’ll get her there!
They aren’t getting any hay/haylage just grass and vit and mineral supplements as this winter field is 70 acers and been empty 2 years so plenty of grass

It can be a lack of protein, so worth trying some pea protein or similar supplementation

I also mean this kindly, but to me she looks just fine for a growthy yearling wintering out, and the last thing she needs in this freakishly warm winter is rugging. Most of the horses I see in the UK are obese. Young, growing stock is much better off being on the light side with a rib or two on display rather than being overtopped, over-rugged (or rugged at all) and over-fed.

Well she definitely won’t be rugged as I don’t like rugging unless they’re clipped. I’d rather feed more than rug (some breeds do need it mine don’t)
I do think there is something amiss as her skin/hair condition isn’t great so that will be sorted
I would prefer her in more the condition of the other two in the photo but we will see what we can do

I lost bb last weekend
We couldn’t get her better fast enough
I had the vet out and we were doing bloods
Worm tests
Trying everything to get her to gain weight but she wouldn’t
Last Saturday she lay down and wouldn’t get up
I held her until she was gone then an hour after
She was only a baby

I feel I’ve been ripped in half
I’ve never lost anyone especially not family.
I’ve been a mess
I only had the strength to start telling people this week as I just burst into tears talking about her

I’ll miss my beautiful baby

So sorry to read that JBM. I hope you are as OK as possible at such a distressing time.
