Well it was my 18th yesterday and the day before (monday) I popped over to my Nans house to pick up my birthday cards. They sent me into the living room where there was a rather large box - haven't had such a big box since I was tiny haha! Opened it up and it was a harness for my two ponies. (The week before I was moaning that I couldn't ask Nannie for a harness as she said she'd already got me my birthday present and mum 'thought' it was jewellery.)
At this point I was over the moon and really couldn't ask for anything else. I was then sent outside to get a card off next door neighbour where they had parked up the most beautiful little pony cart i've ever seen

At this point I cried, my Mum cried and my Grandad cried!
It turns out my Grandad had gone and brought me an old pony cart that had been left in a field for 12years and was pretty much rotten and completely restored it, even hand stitching the leather.
I had to share my gorgeous birthday present!..

And one of my gorgeous little Bramble - her first time in harness!

So has anyone got any advice with regards to driving?

What a fabulous family you have. Your grandad has done a wonderful job too, it looks beautiful and so nicely finished, so personal. You are a very lucky lady indeed! Sorry, no help with the driving, but hope you have fun, and post lots of photos when you get going!

And happy birthday for yesterday too. Although it sounds as if it was more than happy :D

what a fantastic grandad you have lol
what a great job he has done :}
cant wait to see the pony attached !!!!!!!!!!

:-O what a beautiful little cart and beautiful ponios. You must be over the moon.
Your grandad has finished it abolutley amazingly. Hope you have an amazing summer driving your lovely cart. I love the carved horse heads and the little silver heads on the yellow framework. Its simply stunning.

How special is that??

That would mean so much to me, to have something that somebody close to me had invested so much time and thought.

You are a very lucky girl :).
Good luck with the driving.

Thankyou everyone for such lovely comments! He is incredibly clever and skilled! But this is his first cart he has ever touched! It took him just over a month to restore - i'll try and scan in the pictures of the original cart if I can, he had to replace most of the wood because it had been rotting in a field for 12 years!
The idea is to stick my 3 year old in it, the harness they got me sadly doesn't come close to fitting my Shetland despite being 'Shetland size'. Soo Brambles taking the strain (geddit?) haha!
Will have to start a 'Brambles Driving Diary'! She was pulling a bucket of bricks around the menage yesterday for the first time ever and was trotting etc perfectly, and today we went out long-reining in the blinkers and she didn't care at all! So will definately update you all with pictures!
I am soooo lucky, I never dreamed in a millions years of having such an amazing present!
Thankyou everyone! x x

Happy Birthday xxxx
Well that post made my eyes leak, must be the pollen or something cough cough!!
What thought and care and love went into restoring that cart, what a lovely lovely clever man to do that for you. The detail is amazing, I love the carvings and all the little extra bits. You are so lucky to have such a lovely family.
I would love to see the before pics.

Oh, Happy Birthday x What a wonderful, thoughtful family you have. Looking forward to reading your diary and hearing how you are doing x

Best wishes x
